[Jesus said], "And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him" (Luke 19:31-KJV).
When Jesus came to Earth, He put aside His heavenly crown and become poor for us in order to heal the sick, cast out demons, raise the dead, feed the thousands, and even help His disciples catch as many fish as they needed. On Palm Sunday, He entered Jerusalem to proclaim that He was the long expected King of the Jews. As He rode into the city, the multitude "began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen" (Luke 19:37). At the end of the week, before His crucifixion and death, the Romans crushed a crown of thorns upon his brow to mock Him. Jesus came to not only teach and show us how to live, but through His death and resurrection to make true life possible for all who would trust in Him for salvation.
Jesus, who did so much for us, did so very little for himself on Earth. During His ministry, Jesus said of himself, "the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head" (Luke 9:58). As far as we know, Jesus always walked from town to town when He preached and worked miracles to bless others. When He rode into Jerusalem, He had to borrow a colt to ride on, and He only did that in order to fulfill the scriptures (Zechariah 9:9).
In fetching the colt for Jesus, the disciples did so readily because Jesus said, "The Lord needs it." The colt's owners gave the colt to Jesus' disciples without questions after they learned "The Lord needs it." We often do things for our children, parents, and friends, when we learn they need it. Today, people need the Lord, and the Lord needs us to tell them about Him. What might Jesus be asking you to do today for Him and others, because "The Lord needs it"?
