An Aerican is a member of Aerica. More accurately, he or she is a member of the Aerican Empire, which was founded in 1987, making it a relatively new empire in the history of the universe. I have to say universe and not the world because parts of this empire are located on Mars and Pluto. Aerica is in fact a micronation which hopes to set a standard for the rest of the recognized nations on earth.
Aerica was founded by a young Canadian by the name of Eric. No, not Eric the Blue or Eric the Orange, but Eric the Canadian. In the early years of its founding, Aerica engaged in a series of wars against other micronations, eventually merging with them. Aerica quickly rose to become a powerful empire, encompassing Chompsville in Victoria, Australia; less than an acre size in Montreal, Canada which operates as the capital; a colony on Mars; the northern hemisphere of Pluto; Parrwater in Alberta, Canada; Psyche, which is near Chompsville; Retsaot Island in New Zealand; a cow pasture in the American midwest; and Verden, an unidentified planet. Applicants for citizenship of Aerica get to choose which region they want to be a resident of.
As a parliamentary democracy, the citizens of Aerica enjoy a number of rights guaranteed under their constitution, including health care, science funding, freedom of expression, and the freedom to organize peacefully in public. Aericans even enjoy the rights recognized by the United Nations, even though Aerica is not a member of this world body yet.
Aerica recognizes a number of holidays and niftydays. New Year's day is properly a holiday while the others, such as Peculiar People Day, which falls on January 10, is a niftyday. Needless to say, Aerica has many niftydays that are worth observing just because they are nifty.
Aericans on the whole are a highly creative group of people who do not mind investing their time in role playing, writing fantasy and science fiction, playing fantasy and science fiction games, and laughter. Laughter, in fact, is so important to Aericans that their very red and white vertical striped flag has a yellow happy face positioned in the center white stripe. The Aerican Empire operated efficiently through the Internet because of the random portions of land that make up Aerica.
I've considered Aerica and what it can offer a potential citizen and of course, what a citizen can offer Aerica. Hopefully my completed application for citizenship will be approved so I can become a citizen of Aerica.
