Depending upon your situation there are different things you can do. Maybe, you will like your dog to get pregnant. Getting her to mate might be a hard one. On the other hand you might have missed the deadline for getting her spayed. If this has happened and you most definitely do not want puppies around then he will need to keep a close eye on her. Here are some tips for whatever way you decide to go:
Want to Have Puppies:
Once your dog goes into heat and the decision has been made for her to get pregnant you will need to find her a mate. Preferably, this has to be one that she will like. You should plan on a good 1 to 2 weeks for the process to be successful. If you do not own the male dog have him over for a couple of weeks or maybe vice versa. After a few weeks have passed you can take your dog to the Vet., and they will be able to see if she conceived. If it is a success gestation will take about 75 days.
Do Not Want Puppies:
If the cutoff was missed to get her spayed before she went into heat. There are different things you can do. Some Veterinarians will still spay your animal after they go into heat, but it will cost you. There is usually a fee added that can be expensive. You can also put a pull-up on your pooch. The animal will bleed while in heat, but not a lot there will still be little droplets of blood that can go everywhere. Keep her in a safe place away from male dogs that are not neutered.
The choices are up to you, but remember puppies and a pregnant momma need more work. Until the puppies are 8 weeks old they will need food-not till closer till the end. They will also need their first round of shots. This is a very natural experience and can be wonderful if you are prepared.
