What Can Be Done About Climate Change?

Pat Lunsford
In order to determine what can be done to address climate change, the cause and severity has to be determined. However, it seems that those who study these things are more concerned with proving that those who oppose them are wrong than actually getting to the truth.

Be that as it may, a number of very qualified scientists who are sincerely seeking the truth rather than struggling to enter the spotlight have been working diligently to analyze the data in order to come up with a level-headed way to address the issues associated with climate change.

Many of the reports released to the public are no doubt from scientists who are closely linked to politicians associated with climate change issues and the IPCC. Numerous other scientists seriously question some of these reports. Many of them suggest that climate change is far worse than stated by the IPCC while others claim it isn't nearly as serious as they would have us believe.

What are we to deduce from all of this?

For every fame and fortune-seeking scientist there are probably a hundred honest truth-seeking ones who will come forward to refute any false claims. Since they don't have as much clout as the ones who follow self-glory rather than truth, it may be a while before they are heard but they WILL be heard.

Therefore, the only thing that can be done to address climate change is to let the scientists and politicians sort through the facts until the truth comes out. We can't find a solution until we find out what the problem is and right now we aren't in agreement as to what the problem actually is.

Currently we have a handful of facts mingled with conjecture mixed with some exaggeration, hype and even outright lies. Once the facts have been gleaned from all of this, climate change can be addressed. Let us pray that by the time we finally reach this point it isn't too late.

Not long ago some brave scientists actually took their lives into their own hands in the name of climate change and challenged the frozen wilderness of the arctic in order to measure the thickness of the ice to get reliable data. Submarines and satellites gather general data but it's just not good enough. If the ice is indeed melting faster than predicted then time is a luxury we simply cannot afford.

Anyone with any knowledge at all about the harsh environment of the arctic along with all that would be entailed in such a journey can readily understand the devotion of these brave men and women. But at the same time we must realize that the threat behind climate change must be quite serious for them to even consider such a project.

Rapid melting of sea ice is indicative of dramatic temperature shifts worldwide, which is what precipitated this long trek across such a frigid wasteland. Apparently these scientists realized how imperative it was that we learn just how bad it really is.

Currently, the sea levels are predicted to rise around five feet by the end of the century. On the other hand, if the glaciers and ice shelves are melting faster than predicted, sea levels could rise much sooner and perhaps even higher than once thought.

Consider for a moment: What if the IPCC released a report saying they had positive proof that sea level would rise more than five feet within the next few years? There would be massive panic as people living near the coasts or low-lying areas abandon their homes to search for higher ground around the state or in neighboring states.

Within months all available housing would be taken. Millions would be homeless. In addition to this, if sea ice melts this fast, the oceans will heat significantly causing catastrophic storms, hurricanes and tsunamis. It would be a worldwide catastrophe.

Exaggerated? Perhaps. But until all of the facts are in no one really knows what will happen if anything at all. Even though it was a purely hypothetical situation it is not completely out of the realm of possibility for the near future.

In the Bible, Jesus Christ described a future time he referred to as the "beginning of sorrows," or "birth pangs," which He said would be a prelude to the Great Tribulation. He spoke of war and rumors of war, earthquakes, famine, and disease.

There have been more wars, earthquakes, famine, and disease in the last half century than ever before in history. The Savior said it would get worse. A loaf of bread could cost as much as a day's wage.

In Revelation, St. John heard an angel say, "touch not the oil and the wine," which are substances associated with the rich.

Nearly every headline today reveals another rich fat-cat being given even more while the common person is struggling just to provide food and a roof for his or her family.

Today, there is no such thing anymore as poor or middle class. We're either dirt poor, barely getting by, ahead but struggling, or filthy rich. Furthermore, if we are indeed approaching the Great Tribulation, those of us in the first three categories will merge into poverty together while the fat-cats get even fatter.

America was once a God-fearing nation until 1963 when God was expelled from classrooms, campuses and public places. His name was forbidden to be mentioned even on the grounds and America began to spiral downward from that point on.

What can be done to address climate change? Turn back to God. Accept the salvation He has offered by His Son Jesus Christ and, "...not a hair of your head will perish." (Luke 21)

The hypothetical situation mentioned before would be nothing compared to the things that Jesus said would someday come upon the whole world. He said to watch for the signs. Those of us who have been watching can plainly see them all around us- war and threat of war, famine, disease, and earthquakes.

"And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken." (Luke 21)

Perhaps nothing can be done to address the issues of climate change at this point. And of course there is a chance that our climate will simply correct itself and level off. Nevertheless, climate change is only one of the many problems we are facing today.

Jesus Christ is coming back to claim what belongs to Him. Do you belong to Him?

"Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty (Rev.1:7)

  • There has been more sea ice lost in the last few years than ever before in our history.

  • If the ice is indeed melting faster than predicted, time is a luxury we simply cannot afford.
The alarming outlook of the Arctic ice cap melting much faster, possibly leading to a vivid shift in temperatures worldwide, is what precipitated the long trek across this frozen wilderness.
