What Can Be Done About the Current Recession?

The Truth About the Recession

David Fitzell
There are many people who have opinions on what may have caused the current recession. "A recession is a slowdown of economic spending, employment, and investments for a long period of time". People are blaming it on things like the banks, housing market, or the government. People have different ideas of how long we should wait before we call our economic standing a recession, I have heard six months,12 months, and up to 2 years. A slowdown of the economy, even for just a short few months, could cost thousands of people to lose their jobs and investments. There could be a very simple resolution to help get rid of some of the problems that are causing this horrible downturn in the united states economy.

The best way to help the situation at hand would be for the government to spend some of our hard earned tax dollars on capping gas prices or subsidizing the oil companies to help keep the prices of fuel low. The massive raise on fuel over the past few years is what I believe to be the number one reason that our country has slipped into the state of hardship that it is in. People are spending all of their hard earned money filling up their tanks, instead of spending their extra money helping to boost the economy.

When the gas prices go up it effects everyone on the board from regular, hard working people, manufactures and farmers, to wholesalers, truck companies, all the way to the products in our local grocery store, or our favorite electronic shop. Farmers have to charge more for their crops because they are spending more money on gas for the equipment they use. Our Local stores are having to raise their prices because the trucking companies have to charge more because they are spending three times the amount of money on gas from even just a few years ago. If these high gas prices continue it will not be long before we see the prices of everything we buy raise substantially.

The recession is effecting millions of people. Our friends and families are being laid off, they are having to collect unemployment and no one knows who is going to be the next victim of this horrible downturn. Businesses are going bankrupt and layoffs of the masses have occurred. The Government has been trying to boost the economy by bailing out big banks, giving extra tax credits, and cutting taxes on your paycheck but it has not been working. We need to try some different tactics instead of making the same old mistakes that have kept the economy struggling for so long.
