1) Don't leave the scene or move the vehicle. It is easy for someone to panic when they've just been in a car accident, but it is very important to take responsibility for your actions as a driver. Don't drive away or move the vehicle. Also, make sure to put all flashing hazard lights on so that approaching drivers will take notice of the accident and avoid causing another fender bender.
2) Make sure that everyone is alright or in need of medical attention. Whether it is your fault or the other driver's fault, it is the best thing to do as a good and thoughtful person, to make sure that everyone involved in the accident is okay. If someone is hurt, try to find out where they are injured and if they are in need of medical attention.
3) Call the police to make a report. Let the police know where exactly the accident has occurred, if anyone is injured, and if someone is in need of an ambulance.
4) Exchange personal information, including insurance information with the other driver. While you are waiting for the police to arrive, make sure that you and the other driver exchange names, addresses, phone numbers and insurance policy numbers of all people involved in the accident. If there are any witnesses to the accident, be sure to write down their names and phone numbers.
5) Stay calm and cooperate with the police when they arrive at the scene of the accident. Regardless of whether the accident is your fault or not, you need to stay calm. Accidents happen everyday and the police are trained to deal with these types of incidents. Be sure to get the reporting officer's name and accident report number. If your car is towed away from the scene, find out where it will be towed to.
6) Report the accident to your insurance company. Call your insurance company and let them know what happened, whether it was your fault or not, and if anyone in the accident was given a citation, towed, or taken to the hospital. Your insurance company should then advise you as to whether you need to file a claim or if the other party in the accident is responsible.
Car accidents can be very scary and stressful events, but if you follow these 6 tips the process will be quicker and easier. Also, be sure that you are protecting yourself, your family, and driving responsibly with auto insurance. If you are driving irresponsibly without auto insurance, call an insurance company or agent today for an auto insurance quote and start driving legally!

Post a CommentGreat advice! I have been in 3 car accidents (never found to be at fault) and this is a great guide.
;o)
I would say make sure you are ok first. Because if you are severely injured - nobody is going anywhere, anyway.
Your advice is absolutely correct. The key thing is not to panic and do something that you'll live to regret.
Yikes! This is good stuff to know but I'd be such a mess I'll have to print it out and put it my glove box!
Terrific advice :) Sheri
very good job :)
Great info to know. But the only accident I was ever in had me being carted away in an ambulance with a concussion. Of course, the police knew where to find me to get my statement. :)
Super info.
good one!
