What Are the Effects of Stress and Anxiety?

Are you feeling not quite yourself lately? If so, it is possible that you are experiencing the symptoms of stress and anxiety. Stress is a normal part of life and in small amounts can actually be helpful to you. However, prolonged stress and anxiety can lead to a variety of physical and psychological problems. So just what are the symptoms of stress and anxiety?

The symptoms of stress and anxiety can include:

Dry mouth

Irritability

Dizziness

Diarrhea

Frequently needing to urinate

Irregular heart beat

Rapid Breathing

Muscle tension

Headaches

Sweating

Trembling or twitching

Abdominal pain

Decreased concentration

Sexual problems

Problems sleeping

Ignoring the warning signs of stress and anxiety can definitely lead to larger problems. Ongoing stress diminishes your body's ability to fight off illness. Are you feeling worn down and sluggish, or do you greet the day smiling? Are you cheerful and friendly or sullen and withdrawn? Are you getting a good nights sleep or is your sleep pattern fitful and interrupted? These are some very basic signs that you could be experiencing higher levels of stress than is healthy for you. The good news is that with proper care the physical symptoms of stress and anxiety can be managed.

One very easy way to determine the cause of your symptoms is to chart when they occur and take note of when they seem to increase in frequency or severity. This can help you determine the root cause(s) of your symptoms and know in advance when they are likely to occur. Then you can try to avoid the circumstances and if that's not possible, at least you will be more prepared. Sometimes just knowing the causes and triggers of your anxiety will be very helpful in helping you to manage your symptoms. I know it definitely has been for me.

Once you have identified what causes your symptoms of stress and anxiety you can begin to think of ways to free yourself from the problems that cause these symptoms. You may not be able to get rid of these issues right away, but just knowing that you are making progress on dealing with it can make you feel a lot better.

Remember, prolonged stress and anxiety can really wreak havoc on your health and your life. Going through life being anxious and stressed out all the time isn't really the greatest way to live. Why not get started today learning to manage what causes your symptoms of stress and anxiety?
