1. Scary Movie Marathon
I remember staying up long past midnight on Halloween with my father and sister in front of the glow of our old Zenith TV. The ritual which I recall was a series of horror movies that didn't end until we were all dozing off. My father would subject us to Friday The 13th, Candyman, Halloween, Child's Play, and -of course- the classics- Dracula, Frankenstein, and so-on.
Why not do the same? Grab a handful of scary DVDs, kick back on the couch with a few friends, and indulge in a little Halloween fear. Classic!
2. Visit A Haunted House
No, I'm not saying you should break in your elderly neighbor's home- seriously, don't. Every city has a handful of locations devoted to scaring patrons on Halloween- so-called 'haunted houses'. Though usually little more than spaghetti worms, ghostly sheets, and rubber masks- these can be entertaining on a very primitive, fear-inducing level.
3. Midnight Drive
Not every family is looking for a terrifying Halloween experience. For those it is best to partake in a more relaxing activity. Why not hop in the car around midnight and spend an hour touring the city? The surreal element of seeing countless costumed entities out on the streets will certainly give the Halloween flavor without being too overpowering.
4. Trick or Treat? How about just tricks...?
This one can be a bit iffy. There was a time when good-hearted pranks and mischief were easier to get away with. Ol' Officer Brady would shrug his shoulders and make a humorous joke after reaching an egged car or toilet papered house. "Those darned kids and their tomfoolery." Unfortunately that doesn't fly anymore- what with law suits and the abundance of firearms. For those that do wish to spend their Halloween goofing off and pulling harmless tricks- better stick to doing so with friends and family. Strangers tend to be pretty hostile to masked kids with super soakers.
5. Marathon of Horror Games
For gamers, this is a no-brainer. Turn out the lights, plug in your favorite console, and face head-on what goes bump in the night. While some might not appreciate a video game's flair and sustenance when it comes to the horror genre, most adore the sensation received from it. Some recommended series: Fatal Frame, Alone In The Dark, Calling, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, House of the Dead, Cursed Mountain, Eternal Darkness, Sadness, Dead Space, and Siren! A few to avoid: Escape From Bug Island, newer Resident Evil titles, Dead Rising, and Obscure.
