Here are top ten qualities and skills that I think are important:
1. Punctuality. Time is money. Employers want employees to be punctual because you are not wasting their time which is money. Best rule is to be about five to 10 minutes early.
2. Grooming needs. Whether you are hired or going on interviews, you should make sure you are grooming needs are appropriate. The eye judges within seconds of first meeting. You want to leave a good impression in your employer's mind.
3. Honesty. Employers need to feel their employees are honest because this is the key to building trusting and professional bonds among colleagues.
4. Handling pressure. Deadlines are common in the workplace. Sometimes, deadlines are last minute projects or tasks. It is essential to be able to handle pressure. Employers do not want to see employees fall under pressure.
5. Multitasking if needed. Once in a while or maybe more, the need to multitask arises. Multitasking may be needed in order to start projects and tasks, and sometimes to help other colleagues. Be able to multitask, if needed.
6. Dependable. For companies and businesses to be running smoothly and efficiently, employees need to be dependable. Being dependable, shows that you come to work and perform during your scheduled time.
7. Organization. Since employees play different roles in society, it is important to be organized. Organization skills will strengthen the employee's reputation. By being organized, the employee is contributing to a better working environment for his or herself and others.
8. Efficiency. Employers love efficiency among employees. Efficiency is the ability to save time, resources and money while getting the project and work done.
9. Creativity. Creativity skills are important in improving the company and the working environment. Employers are always looking for creative solutions to diverse problems.
10. Life long learner. It is essential to continue to be life long students. Employers expect employees to continuously learn about their careers by taking courses, workshops and earning degrees and certificates.
Depending on the company and the nature of work, qualities and skills may differ among employers. They look for qualities and skills that would be an asset to the working atmosphere. Always search what the company is looking for in its employees.
