What Ever Happened to Hale Boggs and Nick Begich During Their Flight in Alaska?
Plane Crash Site Never Found in Alaska
The plane was thought to went down around the Chugach Mountains; however, the plane or the remains of those on board were never located. The search for the plane was one of the largest ever that involved around 40 military and 20 private aircrafts combing the area to see if they could locate the plane. The search went on for around 39 days and was called off because there was no luck in locating them.
To this day, it's still a mystery where the plane could have crashed. You would think after years that someone out adventuring in the remote area would have located the crash site. Nevertheless, those 4 people perished and have never been found. Hopefully, one day someone will find the crash site so that the skeleton remains may be properly returned to the family for a proper burial.
Hale Boggs, served on the famous Warren Commission during the time of his death that was investigating the John F. Kennedy assassination. He was pushing for the case to be reopened during the same time period.
Also, there is some controversy around the search efforts regarding Hale Boggs and Nick Begich that are related to some FBI telexes that tips came into the FBI regarding the location of the crash site. However, no further investigations were carried out regarding those tips.
However, during 1972 we didn't have the technology we have today to find a plane crash and this tragic event is one of the reasons the government pushed to have locators installed on all planes.
