What Every Fat Person Needs to Know: Big, Fat Lies

LL
I'm going to tell you some simple truths that will make your life easier as a fat person.

1. You are not chubby, pleasingly plump, big-boned, or thick. You don't just have "a little more to love". You are fat. Embrace the word. Forget the world's connotations.

2. If you are over 200 lbs, you need to get serious about exercising. I didn't say get serious about losing weight, because most likely you have always been "serious" about losing weight. Exercise will improve your health, worry about the nutrition and weight later.

3. There is a reason people think fat people are slobs.

So, yeah-it's not completely true. However, there are tons of people out there who are just happily living the slob lifestyle. They think, "I'm fat; no one will want me. Why put any effort into my appearance?"

I don't care what size you are, it's important to take care of yourself. Trust me, you will feel better if you do. If you always wear elastic and muumuus, of course you'll feel like crap. As a fat person, it is hard to find clothing. But you can do it! Think Ashley Stewart, Torrid, Big and Tall, and Lane Bryant. There are so many online stores out there for plus size people now. Learn to do your own makeup. Go get a haircut. Put the skinny girls and guys to shame.

4. You better not do that friends with benefits crap.

Do not sell yourself short. If somebody wants to creep around with you behind closed doors but doesn't think you're good enough to be shown in daylight, you have a problem (or rather they do). You are in a screwed up position and you need to get out of it. You are more than that. Do not settle for friends with benefits. Let me tell you the truth: There are guys who like more junk in the trunk...but you won't find them if you won't flirt or display any sort of confidence. Also...guys: girls love teddy bears (not just the ones stuffed with cotton).

5. You are only worth as much as you think you are.

PERIOD.

6. Fat is only a part of your identity.

I was going to say that being fat is not an identity, but that's a lie. It is. No matter how much weight you lose, most likely you will be mentally fat for your entire life. Being fat gives you a very interesting and enlightened perspective of this world. However, don't let it consume you. Don't stereotype your life. If you buy into the world's view of how useless and disgusting you are, you will only hurt yourself.
