Many teenagers today do not practice safe sex with the result of an increasing amount of STI' cases reported over the past year. STI's (sexually transmitted infection) are the direct result of multiple partners, not practicing safe sex , breaking condoms or not using condoms. With STI's on the increase after the major HIV scare a few years ago, which is still very prevalent today, the number of people being treated for STI's was dramatically decreased. The new reports which show that STI's are on the increase is a very worrying trend.

WHAT ARE STI'S AND HOW CAN THEY BE TREATED?

GENITAL WARTS: This form of STI with small and very painful warts appearing on the genitals. They can be removed by burning or freezing however you will still be infected with the virus.

SYPHILIS: This form of STI comes in three stages. Firstly, you will see brown mouth sores which are very painful. Secondly, a rash will appear on your body and finally, Syphilis invades your body and all major organs which can lead to blindness, brain damage and death. Syphilis can be treated in the first and second stage only with antibiotics.

HERPES: This form of an STI shows up with small blisters which are extremely painful on the mouth or genital areas. Before the onset of the blisters you may feel a tingling sensation or an itchy feeling and then the blisters will appear. Herpes can not be cured however you can take medication before your next outbreak by taking medication.

CHLAMYDIA: This form of an STI can cause nausea, fever, bleeding in between periods, a very painful stomach and discharge from your genitals. Chlamydia can be treated by using antibiotics.

GONNORHEA: This form of an STI can cause a discharge which is either yellow or white from your genitals. It can also create a very painful burning sensation when you urinate and severe stomach cramps. Gonnorhea can be cured with antibiotics.

SCABIES: This form of an STI produces small bumps on your body and general itching. Scabies is highly infectious and you must ensure to wash everything that your body comes into contact with. Scabies can be treated by medication which can be prescribed by your Doctor.

PUBIC LICE: This form of STI, also known as crabs, produces nits in your pubic hair which causes terrible itching. Public Lice (crabs) can be treated by going to your Doctor and being prescribed a cream which only has to be used once.
