Small Town Boy Residents of Massachusetts will tell you what a beautiful and historic town Concord, MA really is. In Concord, in 1775, American militiamen confronted the British regulars in a bloody confrontation at the Concord Bridge and made history as the American Revolution began. Almost three quarters of a century later, Concord, Ma became the center of literary and philosophical conversations and writing. Living in Concord and sharing their ideas were men like Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Bronson Alcott.
What everyone should know about Steve Carell is that despite how amusing he can be on television, he was born in the small New England town of Concord and so his roots are set in rather serious soil. Carell grew up in a community that takes itself seriously and takes education seriously too. Steve Carell began his education at the Fenn School which was a private elementary school for boys. In his high school years he again attended a private school, the Middlesex School. When it was time for college Steve Carell left Massachusetts for Ohio and Denison University. Located in the small town of Granville, Denison may have seemed not unlike the small town community that Carell had grown up in at Concord.
When college was over, Carell held a job for a time as a mail carrier and also toyed with the idea of continuing his education and pursuing a law degree. But what Carell freely relates and what everyone should know about Steve Carell is that when it came right down to it and he was asked on an application why he wanted to be a lawyer, he really couldn't think of anything to write.
Getting Started. Few television or movie stars have the good fortune to simply be discovered at the corner drugstore. For many there are scores of odd jobs, lots of trial and error and more disappointment than success. For every 10 personalities who make it to the big time there are countless others who simply drop by the wayside. And each of those who make it seem to come to stardom by their own unique route.
For Steve Carell the real beginning seems to have been his early comedy efforts with the Second Troupe an improv group in Chicago. The work allowed Carell to hone his skills and meet people in the comedy business . But what everyone should know about Steve Carell is that his involvement with Second Troupe allowed him the chance to become a bit of a teacher. From 1990-96, Steve Carell worked teaching improv classes. Not only did he improve his own skills but he helped improve the skills of others . The extra reward for his teaching efforts was that in one of his classes appeared the woman he would eventually marry. Now that 's improvisation!
Working with the Bigs When "The Office" first appeared on television, for some viewers the cast might have seemed like a collection of lightweights and unknowns. But what everyone should know about Steve Carell is that he made his way onto the set of "The Office" only after a relatively long route of bit aprts and comedy writing jobs.
Carell's film debut occurred in 1991 when he played the relatively insignificant part of Tesio in the film "Curly Sue". He gained a little experience writing for the short lived Dana Garvy Show. But it wasn't really until he made some repeated appearances as a corresponded on the "Daily Show" with John Stewart that he seemed bound for something large.
Finally he broke through on screen playing with Jim Carey in "Bruce Almighty". While he was by no means the second lead, Carell's role was sufficient in length and meaty enough in content for people to clearly remember is comedic ability. He went on to appear with Nicole Kid man and Will Ferrell in " Bewitched" and was most notable of late in his high profile part in "Little Miss Sunshine".
The Future It took Steve Carell almost two decades to begin to make his mark on the entertainment industry. In 2005 he was awarded for his efforts by being chosen to host every comic's dream show, "Saturday Night Live", a sign that Carell had indeed made it. More official recognition came his way in 2006 when he received the Golden Globe Award for best actor in a television comedy for his role as Michael Scott in "The Office".
Every actor knows the all glory is fleeting and stars are judged not only by what they have done or what the are doing but by what lies ahead. In his mid forties Steve Carell's career would seem to be up and running and full of bright promise for years to come. In the immediate future the continued prospects for his show "The Office" appear to be encouraging. By any reckonings it was one of the top comedies of the last season and looks to repeat.
Carell also has worked on a film remake of "Get Smart" the television serious in which he plays the part of secret agent Maxwell Smart created by Don Adams. Carell is also blessed now with a network of other comedic actors and performers upon whom he can rely. What every should know about Steve Carell is that it looks like he will be a fixture in the entertainment world for some time to come.
