What Everyone Should Know About Whitening Your Teeth for that Perfect Smile

Almost everyone wants to have a nice white smile; it is like the holy grail of all of the Hollywood celebrities. Bleaching might be just what the doctor ordered unless you have sensitive teeth, periodontal disease or worn out enamel. You may want to have this done before a big event like a reunion, prom or wedding, but how white will they get? Since it is impossible to know how much whiter your teeth will want to talk to your dentist before trying an over the counter bleach system. There are many reasons a stain may not react well with the bleach. We all want to return our teeth to the whitest white possible although most bleaching agents will only improve them by two shades. There are some side effects to bleaching you could have some tooth sensitivity or some gum irritation which is normal and should end after the treatment. Bleaching is safer when you consult with your dentist about your concerns and the different options that are available to you. The American Dental Association has its seal of approval to several different products. It is important not to use more then one bleaching product at a time since these can hurt your mouth if you do not follow the directions.

So if you want to get those pearly whites you will need to contact your dentist and set up an appointment. There they can evaluate your teeth and figure out what kind of results you want. From there they can offer you a variety of systems ranging to in home products to laser treatments in an office. If you do not have much time before your event you will want to mention it since in home products will take at least two weeks. To get your teeth whitened that day you can ask for an office treatment or laser bleaching while you are there. These procedures are very expensive so if you can be happy with waiting a few weeks you will save at least a few hundred dollars.

If you can wait for your office to get your supplies in then set up another appointment to make a customized mouth guard. They will demonstrate how to use the products at home and you expect to spend the next three to six weeks bleaching. Although this may seem like a long time, the effects should last for up to five years. If you want to keep your smile white you can give up teeth staining things like smoking, and drinking tea or coffee. Since these things stain your teeth, and you cannot give up these habits, you can also try to brush your teeth as soon as you can. At your next appointment you can ask your dentist a re-treatment if your teeth have faded back to their original gray. Remember you may need to lower your expectations before you go into to this teeth-whitening process. Your teeth are not going to get as white as you want but they will look lighter.

You should never use more then one bleaching product at a time since you can burn your mouth with these chemicals. There are some cases where people have actually over whitened their teeth and have lost there chance at having a great smile.
