What to Do with Excess Holiday Candy

There are several holidays scattered throughout the year that mean gifts of candy. Believe it or not too much candy can be a bad thing because it becomes a storage issue and also causes children to demand it every time they see it. There are several ways to use up excess chocolate candy bars after the holidays without resorting to throwing it away. Here are a few ideas.

Excess Holiday Candy: Take it to Work

Give the children a reasonable amount to keep at home and take the rest to work. Mom and Dad's work is a great place to bring excess chocolate candy bars because there may be numerous employees willing to take some of the candy off your hands. Your tasty offering to the work kitchen will instantly spread good will amongst your work peers and also cater to your mid morning or late afternoon hunger attack. If your place of employment has a reception area for waiting customers, fill up a candy dish or bowl and the chocolate candy bars will be gone in a week.

Excess Holiday Candy: Freeze

Believe it or not, most chocolate candies can be frozen. You might want to make sure your portion your candy out so it is not all frozen in one lump package. Pull a package of candy month by month and before you know it, it will be gone.

Excess Holiday Candy: Baking

Most chocolate candy bars can be recycled into new baked treats. Leftover candies such as M&M's are great in cookie recipes and even making rice crispy squares. Regular milk chocolate from Hershey bars, chocolate bunnies or chocolate Santa can be melted down in a double boiler to make your own chocolate molds or a chocolate bowl. Also consider chopping up the leftover milky way or snicker bars and adding to your brownie batter.

Excess Holiday Candy: Ice Cream Sundae Bar

Summer time is a great time to prepare ice cream sundae parties. Why not use up some of the saved chocolate candy bars you have portioned up in the freezer. Some great ice cream candy toppers include chopped Snickers, M&Ms, Twix, and heath bars. Take the candy bars and chop up in a blender and serve in a bowl amongst your other ice cream sundae toppers. You will be surprised how quick these leftover chocolate candy bars get used up.

Excess Holiday Candy: Re-Gift Halloween candy

Okay. Giving back candy that was gifted to you may sound somewhat tacky, but it will deplete your surplus of sweets. Consider your surplus when getting ready for Halloween. Also consider re-gifting some of the extra miniature candy bars as party favors in a birthday party or kid's party.
