What Exfoliation Is and Why is it an Important Part of Your Skin Care Regimen

Have you considered adding an exfoliate to your weekly skincare regimen? Are you unsure if the benefits are worth the extra cost and expense?

First off, Exfoliation is a process of applying a mildly abrasive gel or lotion to your skin. The product, once applied to your face, works with your skin's natural rejuvenation process to sloth off dead skin cells and debris, leaving you with a smoother looking complexion.

There are hundreds of products on the market that work to exfoliate the skin, however, they range in price and type. Some even serve a double function as a cleanser. However, for the cheapest, most effective method purchase a reasonably priced product from the drugstore containing the most natural ingredients you can find. Not all skincare products are created equal, but an exfoliate containing crushed nuts or seeds will do the job.

If you want a completely natural, dirt cheap option pick up a bottle of baking soda. Baking soda, on top of being a cooking ingredient, household cleaner, and deodorizer is also very beneficial to your skin. As the grains in baking soda are very fine and coarse it works as an excellent exfoliate. To apply, simply make a paste with a little water and use as you would any drugstore brand.

Once you add exfoliates to your routine you will start to see results within a matter of weeks. If used two to four times a week, the exfoliate will give your skin that smooth feeling instantly. After a few more uses, you will start to notice a smoother appearance after all. After a few weeks, you will even begin to see old scars and marks left from blemishes begin to appear lighter and less obvious.

However, exfoliates must be used with extreme caution if you have acne prone skin. The abrasive ingredients in exfoliates can work against your acne. When the product is applied to your face, it can cause any current acne to become aggravated, worsening it's appearance. Worse yet, the acne can break apart and spread, causing new acne to form. You can still use exfoliates with acne prone skin, but opt for ones made specifically for sensitive skin.

Exfoliates can be a great way to improve the look and tone of your skin. Since they are readily available, easy to use, and affordably priced they can easily be added to your skin care regimen.
