What to Expect with New Expanded Playstation Store

When it launched alongside the Playstation 3, the Playstation Store was very barren. To further compound the problem, the digital distribution channel was also slow and clunky. Fortunately, Sony was able to quickly patch things up. As a result, the Playstation Store became faster and more user-friendly. Best of all, the digital store has been flowing with new Playstation Network games, added PSP support and video downloads. Sony is also planning to expand on the Playstation Store with the following new content.

TurboGrafx-16
The TurboGrafx-16 is a retro video game system that competed against the Sega Genesis and Super NES. Until recently, these games were only downloadable on the Virtual Console of the Nintendo Wii. The Japanese Playstation Store put up these retro titles for sale. Unlike the Virtual Console version, TurboGrafx-16 games can be played on the PSP and Playstation 3. Although no announcement has been yet, it is likely that the system will be joining PSOne Classic on the North American Playstation Store in the near future.

PSP Go
The PSP Go is launching on October 1st. This new model is exclusively dependent on the Playstation Store since it won't have a UMD drive. To prepare for the launch, Sony will be putting hundreds of content for the PSP on the Playstation Store. Not only are several retail games going digital, several PSP games are going to be available digitally. Sony is also adding more PSOne Classics than ever before, which will benefit both the PSP and Playstation 3.

Minis
Part of the reason that Sony designed the PSP Go was to compete against the Nintendo DSi and iPhone. Both gaming devices offer cheap downloadable games via the DSi Shop and App Store. While the PSP Go is getting plenty of games, most of the content aren't cheap. Therefore, Sony recently unveiled a line of budget games called Minis for the PSP on the Playstation Store. These titles will be less than 100 MB in size and cheaper than the usual PSP game. You can expect 15 Minis games to be available with the launch of the PSP Go with more to follow soon after.

PlayStation Network Digital Comics
Sony pretty much got the gaming equation covered on the Playstation Store. However, there are still plenty of mediums to tackle. One of which is digital reading. PSP users will be able to download the digital reader application on the Playstation Store starting in December. You will then be able to read numerous comics from publishers like Marvel. Sony built the PSP to be a multimedia device. Thanks to the Playstation Store, the digital reader is the newest feature for the versatile video game system.
