What to Expect when Getting a Reiki Massage Session

NOM
If you are going to be experiencing Reiki, it is important to understand what is going to happen, since this is not really just a massage and can be very intense or it can feel like nothing happened. Reiki might seem like a spa treatment, it is a form of religious expression. Reiki is a centuries old Tibetan practice based upon the belief that balancing one's chakras, which represent the body's energy channels and heals body, mind and spirit. While it is most common in Western lands as a spa treatment or a form of relaxing massage, Reiki is a form of religious experience allowing a deep relaxation affording the ability to meditate and dwell on deeper, higher thoughts as a form of religious experience. While many Western religions do not think that religion has anything to do with what might seem like just a form of massage or body treatment, many Eastern religions require certain calm, clear mindsets and balances in order to fully practice and appreciate spirituality. Reiki allows for a deep relaxation that aids in deep meditation as a spiritual religious experience. Of note, some Western religions consider this level of relaxation of entering a deep, deep relaxation in tandem with initation prayers as a form of interfaith, but other religions are not concerned. If you are concerned about how your religion views participating in religious acts or prayers of another faith, you may want to explore any implications of this in advance, if any, within your faith. Also, if you are very tense or "A type", you might not be able to relax for several sessions, but you can attain a truly renewed sense of calm with Reiki, so it is worth learning about Reiki in advance so you can understand the process taking place. This is what to expect when experiencing Reiki to balance your chakras.

First you Lie down fully clothed and breathe in deeply. The therapist says a silent prayer that is called an initiation prayer. The therapist will do one of two things: either the therapist will place her hands on the energy channels or she lets them hover over these areas, starting at your head. If she hovers above you, either she is more "sensitive" to sensing your channels or you give off more energy that is easier to sense. The therapist will hold each hand position for three to five minutes to harmonize your body's energy flow. This will be a very light touch, if you are touched at all. This is believed to remove the blockages within the lines or chakras. The chakras run similar to the spine and areas containing major blood vessels and organs in your body, they often invoke areas you can feel your pulse so they are crucial intersections of your body, these chakras transect over areas that are often more sensitive, such as where you might be ticklish. Western medicine often considers these blockages to be some other form of stress along the spine or midlines that is released by the increased circulation caused by the touching of each area. While traditional Western Medicine does not generally see much value to this process, it does not directly conflict with it and at times seems to be very similar to osteopathic and physical therapy cranio-sacral techniques (head to tailbone, all along the spine) such as working on your dural tubing around your spine to allevaet pain, these treatments are often a very light touch but have impact on tissues deep in the body, thus allowing a deep form of relaxation. This step is important to remember since you might be alarmed if you are not forewarned: It is possible to go through an entire Reiki session without being touched, but you might feel sensations anyway. Some experiencing Reiki report sensations like heat coming from the therapists' hands, a feeling of release or even an emotional release such as laughing or crying. Some recall memories, whether hidden memories or simply events that were happy memories but you have not thought of them for some time. This is the beginning of a deep relaxation as the worries of the day have been removed and you move onto other thoughts, such as meditating.

The therapist closes your chakra balancing by clapping her hands at your feet. She will then waving her hands over your whole body to clear your aura. The performing of this action is based upon the belief that negative emotions and blockages are still being purged from the chakras of your body and rising away from you, so this is sort of like "sweeping away" the bad blockages and emotions that are impeding your ability to deeply relax away from you and giving you your optimal chance to experience the Reiki associated deep mediatation capability.
