Getting an in-ground swimming pool should be a joyous time for any family, but if you do not know what to expect, the joy of getting a pool can quickly turn into stress. Pool companies have little things they are hiding and sometime do not make these points clear to the consumer. Know what you are getting you and your family into before you make the decision to buy an in-ground swimming pool and the expenses that will go along with it.

There will be many different heavy trucks driving onto your property to deliver pavers, dirt, the lining, and any other hardware needed to build your pool. These heavy trucks will tear up your lawn and there is nothing you can do about it. When the pool company begins digging the hole for your new in-ground pool they will dump all of the dirt they remove directly onto the grass around the pool. All of the grass near the designated location for the pool will be smothered and killed. This step cannot be helped because the pool builders must adhere to strict codes and guidelines when building your new in-ground swimming pool. The area around the pool must be on a certain degree of a slop, and dirt must be added or removed to keep the desired level.

Unfortunately the pool company will not tell you that you will have to make landscaping plans and should be include that into your pool budget. You will need to spend extra money to plant new sod so that your newly exposed dirt is not washed or blown away. It can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars to have new sod planted in your yard, depending on the type of sod and the size of your yard. Always call several different sod companies before you make any decisions, you could save hundreds of dollars by doing so.

An in-ground swimming pool requires weekly chemical treatments which can cost a few hundred dollars to start out with. The first time you chemically treat your pool, it must have a large dose of chemicals including calcium and alkalinity booster to get the condition of the water proper and safe for human organisms and undesirable for bacteria and fungus. In a newly built in-ground pool, a weekly liquid chlorine treatment is necessary and very important for the first few months. Chlorine tablets are also needed to keep your in-ground pool at the proper chlorine levels, most swimming pools use around 3 tablets at a time, and these should also be changed each week.
