What to Expect at Wheeling Island Hotel Racetrack and Casino in West Virginia

If you are looking for a local place to gamble, check out Wheeling Island Hotel Casino and Racetrack located in Wheeling, West Virginia. Just off I-70, Wheeling Island is a convenient place to gamble and attracts gamblers from all over West Virginia as well as neighboring states like Ohio and Pennsylvania.

So what can you expect on a trip to Wheeling Island? First of all, don't be put off by the location of the property. To get to Wheeling Island (which is not actually on an island) you have to travel through a poor area of the city before stumbling into their gigantic hotel and casino. The parking lot is massive but you will have to park a long distance away if you go during peak times (which is just about every weekend). Wheeling Island does have a small parking garage that is available for Diamond and Platinum card holders and they do offer valet parking. This is also free for Diamond and Platinum members but can get busy and backed up.

Once inside the casino, the first thing you should do is head to the middle of the casino to the customer service area and sign up for a Wheeling Island Promotion card. This card is used to judge how much money you are spending at the casino and gives you back points and coupons accordingly. These discounts and coupons range from hotel discounts to food vouchers to free money and can add up quickly. If you are going to gamble, you might as well earn a little extra on the side to help even you out!

Once you have your card you are ready to spend your money. Now it is time to find the perfect game. Wheeling Island offers table games that include blackjack, roulette, and fun casino games like Let it Ride and Caribbean Stud. Limits are lower during the day and rise at night and on the weekend, so you will need to budget according to the day and time of your visit. Wheeling Island also has a wide variety of slot machines. There are numerous choices of flashy machines that cost from one cent all the way up to one dollar a spin! Winning a jackpot on that machine will make you a nice pay day and Wheeling Island your new favorite casino!

Wheeling Island also boasts a downstairs Texas Holdem room where you can play the card game Texas Holdem against other aspiring gamblers. Unlike the upstairs table where you are playing against the dealer and therefore the casino, downstairs you are matching wits against other players. The dealers are just there to deal the cards and decipher the winners of the pot. All the money goes to one player or another.

The card room is a popular draw for Wheeling Island and is very busy on the weekends. Oftentimes there will be ten or more names on a waiting list. They offer limit and no-limit games and occasionally will have an Omaha or Stud game if there is enough interest.

There are many options for food at Wheeling Island as well. If you are in the poker room and don't want to leave and miss any action, just as the waitress to bring you a menu and you can order right from your seat. Wheeling Island offers a wide range of sandwiches and other foods you can eat at the table. They have a couple of deli type restaurants (including a Starbucks) and also offer a nice buffet. Sunday afternoons are the busiest buffet times and you can stand in line for over an hour waiting to eat! This is a time when it is nice to be a Diamond or Platinum member, because Diamond and Platinum members wait in their own special (and much shorter) lines!

If you are in the area of Wheeling, West Virginia, Wheeling Island is a great casino to visit and try your luck! You will have a fun time and maybe you will get lucky, too! Enjoy the scene, enjoy the food, have fun and good luck!

One thing that is not said is the Pit Bosses are rude. For some reason they forget if it was not for the people coming in the doors that they would be truely unemployed from a dead end job!
