What Experts Won't Tell You About Hypnosis and How it Can Change Your Life

One Thought at a Time - Changing Lives

Dave Ickes
I'll bet the first thing you thought of when you heard the word hypnosis was a swinging pendulum or a swaying watch... am I correct? Or maybe you thought of someone up on stage who clucked like a chicken or barked like a dog. These are the common visions we have when we hear the word hypnosis.

What is hypnosis? It is just an increased state of focused concentration. It is being used to improve health and increase wellness. We have all heard stories about how people have healed themselves through the power of thought. Some people call it faith. Faith can be though of as focused concentration. All they did was use the power of the brain to improve their health. Hypnosis is being used today to help smokers kick the habit, to help people lose weight, and to reduce stress.

You are probably thinking to yourself that you can't he hypnotized. In reality, you have probably been hypnotized several times this past week. A common form of this increased focused concentration is called Highway Hypnosis. Have you ever experienced the feeling where you wonder how you got home because you were so lost in thought? Have you ever missed an exit or a street while driving on the highway? Wasn't it because you were in deep thought about something? Those are examples of hypnosis.

Can you imagine the potential you could reach if you could change your perception of things around you? When you use hypnosis, you have the power to respond to rather than react to certain situations in life.

That's how people have improved their health and well-being. They used hypnosis to make these changes without realizing that it was hypnosis they were using. The wonderful brain, the most powerful computer, is in charge. Whatever you would like to change in life, it's possible because you intend to change it.

What would you change about yourself if anything was possible? What if that little voice in your head that is always screaming out "you can't" suddenly started cheering you on and saying, "you can?" What if your thoughts became exciting and thrilling instead of scary and dull?

You need to remove that inner voice, that little negative "I can't do it' thought that exists in all of us. That's the key to reaching any goal. Hypnosis can do that for you if you are ready.

How do I learn hypnosis? The easiest way is to visit a practitioner who is trained in the practice of hypnotism. He or she will help you quickly learn the skill. A search at the website for the National Guild of Hypnotist will help you locate that person. A second way is to learn how to do it yourself. There are many resources on the Web and in bookstores that will teach you the techniques.

You can learn more about hypnosis in general by visiting the website for the National Institutes for Health found at www.nih.gov.
