What Can I Feed My Dog That Has High Protein in It?

You can make your own high protein food for your dog. Mixing a variety of high protein people food can take the place of packaged dog food for your canine's diet. Meats such as beef, turkey and chicken are high in protein and are not only safe, but nutritious for your dog.

Mixing meat, such as cooked hamburger or inexpensive beef cuts to white rice is a source of high protein for your dog. Boiled boneless chicken and rice is also another dinner that fits the high protein profile.

A meatloaf made from hamburger, rice, carrots and eggs can be baked ahead of time and left in the refrigerator for a few days worth of high protein food for your dog.

High protein dog foods are offered in most grocery and pet stores. Many of these have a fat content of 20%. This fat content is fine for very active dogs, but for dogs that are older or more sedentary, a high protein dog food with lower fat content is recommended.

Eggs and cheese are a great addition to your dog's meals as a source for extra protein.

Dogs thrive on high protein; it is a healthy way for your dog to eat.

Dog food was not always available; decades ago dogs ate table scraps and discards from the butcher. People from that era believe the dogs were healthier then. It was common to have a dog live to fourteen or fifteen years old back in the day they got people food.

Dog food was originally made with the wheat and grains that did not make the FDA standards for humans. The meat in dog food was cuts of horse meat. This did not need to meet the standards that food for human consumption did. It wasn't too long ago when pets were dying from eating the dog food from companies that were using tainted ingredients.

High protein food that you prepare at home for your dog is the only way you will know what you are actually feeding your dog. This is especially true if you have a dog that is sick or failing from age. You will be surprised how much improvement you will see in your dog once feeding him a home made dog food.

Hid coat will become fuller and shiny and he will have more energy. If what the elders of society say are true, you can look forward to adding more years on to your dog's life.

I agree. I'm very picky about the dog food we give our dogs and I always add vegetables and other healthy items to their bowl. Very helpful article. :-)

I totally agree with this concept. Our cats lived very long lives (Benji-almost 17) (Lucy-almost 18). They were not keen on commercial pet food and would only eat certain brands, types etc. We fed them a lot of meat, fish, chicken, rice etc. and a bit of cheese now and again.
