If you decide to do a wire transfer the amount you pay as well as the terms and conditions can vary from bank to bank. The fees at some banks can be $20 to $25 for a domestic wire transfers. You may only be allowed to do a wire transfer at some banks during a certain time of day, such as 9:00am until 1:00pm. Other banks only require you to visit your bank by 5:00pm to complete the transaction. The transfer can be done the same day in most cases.
When you want to do an international wire transfer the fees can increase as well as the time frame for completing this transaction. The fees can be $35 or even $40 for an international wire transfer. Sometimes these are done instantly and sometimes it will take two business days. The time frame can really be dependent upon the receiving bank. Whatever their terms and conditions are can have a large impact on these transactions and when they are completed. It's a good idea for you to understand this feature. You never want to leave a bank with a misunderstanding especially if you have to have money at a specific location in a certain amount of time.
These are not the guidelines, terms and conditions for all banks. It's a good idea to check with your bank to see what fee they will charge and what the exact time frame is.
As you can see doing wire transfers are very costly so if you want to cut back on the fees you may want to find another way to get the funds to your desired destination. If you need to get the funds there very quickly then wire transfers are one of the quickest ways to have this done.
Your first step is to have an account with the bank.
If you are not a customer of the bank in many cases you will not be able to have a wire transfer done, whether it be domestic or international.
