You can purchase fish feeders which you place inside of the tank or you can hook up automatic feeders which hook up to the top of the tank. The fish can eat at the blocks when they are in your fish tank. Some of the fish feeder will break away and drift off into the water in your fish tank. You can purchase feeders that will last a few days or you can purchase a feeder which will last for around one week. Usually these feeders do not last as long as they say that they will last for.
You can also purchase fish feeders that hook up to the top of your tank. You will need to place the automatic fish feeder in a good location. Place it in an area where water will not get up into the feeder and cause the food to turn into mush. Don't place the feeder next to the filter system or on top of your bubbler. This will cause the water to go up into the fish feeder and the food will no longer come out. When the water evaporates it will get into the fish feeder as well.
The feeder will turn and release food through the day. Once the hole in the fish feeder reaches the bottom it will release a certain amount of food. There is a tube in the feeder which will scoop up food after the hole reaches the bottom of the fish feeder. That way, you don't have to worry about feeding your fish all of the food in one day while you are gone.
I would suggest hooking up the feeder and watching it for a couple of days to make sure that it's working properly before you go on vacation. You will want to see how long it takes water to turn the food into mush so that the food is not released. You will want to move the feeder to different locations until you know that the water will not get up into the feeder. You can purchase both feeders to make sure that your fish get fed while you are gone.
