Furcadia is a free MMOSG, which is short for Massive Multiplayer Online Social Game. The game is just how it sounds- there is no storyline except for what you yourself imagine, writing a story through text and interaction with characters that other players have made. The name of the game is role-play, making your storyline, your abilities, everything about your character from scratch and letting them develop via interaction from others. If you aren't into the whole gaming scene however, Furcadia is just as often used as a place to socialize, a visual chat room where you can talk to friends and chill. It's all up to you!
Another feature about this game is the world that you are sent into. With regards to games that have human characters, Furcadia is different in that the players consist of several anthropomorphic animals, including canines, felines, equines, and many more. You can of course, play a human at your leisure (and many people do), but the avatars themselves are all animal. It's a nice change of pace that is well-received by the populace of Furcadia, who always look forward to new animal avatars in future updates.
A key point in Furcadia is the ability to make 'Dreams', which are player-made worlds throughout Furcadia. There are hundreds of different dreams in the game, including the following:
*Taverns
*Socializing Dreams
*Feral Pack lands
*Dog Pounds
*Medieval Places
*Starships and other Sci-fi Areas
*Fighting Arenas
*Guild Dreams
*Fan-made Dreams (including Harry Potter, Redwall, Inuyasha, .Hack//sign, etc)
*And basically, whatever -you- want to make
The Dream Editor is very simple to use, and though it takes time to make a dream, they are very fun to make, especially when other people pop into your dream and like what you've created.
One might wonder how Furcadia keeps a steady income and stays free. Their solution is by selling buyable avatars and accessories for your character. You can purchase a mythical creature such as a dragon or phoenix for example, there are 5 sets of wings that you can choose to buy for your character, etc. Portrait Spaces are -very- popular. They enable you to have a picture-representation of yourself on the game, and you can buy as many spaces as you want, filling them up with art and portraits that you commission. Some recent digos include monthly avatars that relate to a current month (Like bats for October and penguins for December), desctags, which put little pictures in your description, and Ferian Avatars, which are four-legged animals.
All in all, Furcadia is what you make of it. This is simply a brief explanation of what it is. I can say though, that after a few years of playing it, I have no intentions of leaving. I've made many friends on here, have my own successful dream, and am simply enjoying Furcadia for all it has to offer.
So check it out and see for yourself!
