There are several different interpretations online that respond to the question "What is a G6," but few of them actually agree on the answer. Here's the inside scoop, based on the words of the actual band members.
What is a G6: Song Background
The Far East Movement is an Asian-American quartet based in Los Angeles. Their "electro hop" sound went largely unnoticed until "Like a G6" featuring Dev and the Cataracs exploded this summer, reaching the pinnacle on both the Billboard and iTunes charts.
The track has been all over the radio and dance clubs. The chorus repeats the lyric, "Now I'm feelin' so fly like a G6." Listeners have responded to the song's infectious beat even without completely understanding what G6 the band is referencing.
What is a G6: Theories
We'll get to the band's answer in a moment, but first a look at some of the theories suggested on the Internet. The first suggestion to pop up was the Pontiac G6, a mid-size vehicle produced from 2004 to 2009. The car came in coupe, sedan and convertible varieties, but it seems hard to believe that a hip hop act would write a song about a mid-size car, even one with a sunroof.
Other listeners suggested perhaps it was a new flavor of the Gatorade energy drink or perhaps a type of watch.
The next listener suggestion to the question, "What is a G6?" was the Gulfstream G650, a twin-engine jet unveiled in 2008. Gulfstream reports the plane will have a top speed of Mach 0.925, a passenger load of 11 to 18 people and a wingspan of 99 feet. Many people believe this is the G6 the band members are talking about, despite the seemingly-unrelated lyric, "Poppin' bottles in the ice like a blizzard."
What is a G6: Band Members Answer
Kev Nish of Far East Movement spoke to MTV News recently and tried to set the record straight. "A G6 is not a Gatorade flavor. It's not a car, convertible, four-door. It's not a watch," he told the network.
Nish continued: "Drake talks about having G4 pilots on deck, so we said, 'What's flyer than a G4?' Of course, it would be a G6."
What is a G6: Summary
So it appears that the G6 referenced in the song is indeed a jet plane. This makes sense, and it one-ups pop singer Jesse McCartney, who in 2008 released the song "Leavin" with the lyric, "Girl, we flyin' on the G5."
Now the Far East Movement are the kings of the jet-setting musical world. Until someone records a song about a G7, that is...

ok...if i may...and if i cant i will anyway...clear up that saying that F.E.M. created the term 'fly like a G6' is completely incorrect as the woman they remixed into the song actually was the first to say that line or the term itself. go on to youtube.com and look up 'Dev'. click the first video...you can't miss it.
You twits, it's a ex Yugoslav, now Serbian close support Galeb G6 plane.!!
G6 is the Definition of how much speed a cork of sparkling wine has, when its poppin out of the bottle... makes also sense with the Lyrics: "Poppin' bottles in the ice like a blizzard."
