If you ask a room full of people these questions, you will get widely diverse answers.
Sometimes the imagination really does get carried away. Sometimes people really do hallucinate. But there are times when those explanations do not explain events. And science as we know it today is simply unable to explain certain events. Just because there is no concrete explanation for something, however, does not mean it is merely a figment of imagination.
Although I am not 100 percent sure, and I don't think anyone can be 100 percent sure about paranormal events, I believe--as do many others-- that true hauntings are due to energy impressions recorded, somehow (most likely electromagnetically). These recordings, of events that once occurred, play over and over and are noticed by people sensitive to these recordings. Some recordings seem to be extra strong and are noticed by many people. Many famous haunted places are areas where some event occurred that happened to leave an energy impression --one of such a strong nature that average people notice.
This is not as far-fetched as it may seem. If you could pull a person up to the present from just a few hundred years ago and show them a video, they will call it magic. The ability to capture impressions of life on video tape and other substances would seem miraculous to them. Just because we still don't know how the impressions that we call a haunting get stuck in one area, a haunted castle for instance, does not mean it does not occur nor does it mean that it is a figment of imagination--anymore than a videotaped news conference is a figment of our imagination.
This is not non-science. Just because something has yet to be proven, just because we've not yet found a means by which to scientifically test something does not mean it does not exist. One only has to look at physics--especially quantum physics-- to see how mysterious and fascinating a universe we live in.
What about ghosts/spirits who visit people?
Haunted historical areas seem to be simply haunted by the stuck energy I discussed. This is different from occasions where a loved one's spirit pays a visit to those left behind. This does not appear to be the same kind of phenomenon at all. From my experiences, and the experiences of numerous others, it certainly appears that spirits do indeed pay visits to the living. How is this possible? Perhaps we shall never know.
One thing I know for certain is I have met so many people who have had very extraordinary experiences. I try very hard to keep an open mind about the paranormal. I've felt and seen things that seem to have only one explanation: energy lives on and loved ones do sometimes try to make contact with those left behind.

Post a CommentExcellent. People once thought the earth was flat and the sun revolved around the earth. My understanding is that all matter is energy, even things we call solid are composed of rapidly spinning neutrons. Thus the "left behind energy" makes a lot of sense to me.
So cool!
This type of haunting is what a paranormal investigater would call residual. An engery that is left behind that plays itself over and over, like a record player. There is also the intelligent kind, those in which respond to us by a knock when we ask, or responding to us during an e.v.p session, or somehow comminicating to us, there by ruling out the "stuck energy" theory. Typically we are able to pick out the intelligent haunting by e.v.p's. or electronic voice phenomenon which is just a recording in which voices appear on playback, that wasn't present during the recording.
And to answer Eric's question, perhaps it is just as simple as they are beyond our spectrum of vison. If you study the colors in which our eyes can visually see, we can only see up to red spectrum of light. Infrared light we can not see, that is why it is believed infrared cameras, or thermal cameras is why ghosts are picked up on these devices so readily. Also, it would explain why animals are believed
okay I hope this posts this time, otherwise I give up. (laughs)
Paranoraml investigators call this type of haunting residual. It is like a record player it plays itself over and over. An intelligent haunting is when you get an intelligent response whether it be a knock, a response during an e.v.p session, or some other way in which they "communicate" that they are indeed present. Typically, we get intelligent hauntings through e.v.p sessions, which is electronic voice phenomenon. E.v.p, is a recording in which voices not present during the recording are heard on playback. And to answer Erics question, it might be as simple as we are not able to see beyond the red spectrum of light. Infrared is just outside our spectrum that we can see.
and to finish my previous thought...It would explain why animals are believed to be able to see ghosts, and we can't. I haven't, myself, ruled out the other dimension theory. I do however, think that scientifically speaking the light spectrum is more plausible. And to those of you who are skeptics, I challenge you to go and buy a recording device, and hit up a renown haunted cemetary. Have a little chat with the dead, around three hours is usually sufficient and listen carefully on playback, you may be pleasantly surprised.
Really nice article! Before I even read this, I had a very similar impression of this possible explanation for ghosts. I had been studying the string theory, and somehow the two seemed to fit together. If there are other dimensions on the same plane, isn't it possible that we might be able to see into them?
Neat article! My belief (as a Catholic) is that most ghosts are people who never received Christian burial. But a friend of mine told me that once, when she was a child, a woman came to the door. She asked for my friend's mother, who was out at the time. The woman said that was alright, she'd see her another time. When my friend's mother came back, my friend described the woman she had seen. Her mother informed her that this was my friend's grandmother, who had been dead for some years. She showed my friend a picture of the grandmother-and it was the exact same woman! Wonder what prompted that.
Great article Korey! I love the way you compared haunted impressions to modern technology. You've made me a believer!
Good article.I am a believer.
