What Girls Should Not Do at a Hockey Game

penguins29
Living in Pittsburgh, I've been to a good share of Penguin games. Yes, I'm a female hockey fan, I enjoy the sport. However, during my experiences going to games, I've seen SO many females who come to the games, doing everything they shouldn't be doing at a Pens game.

Here are some examples of what NOT to do while attending an NHL hockey game.

1. Avoid making signs such as "Marry Me Sidney Crosby" or "I Love You Evgeni Malkin"

First of all, these players are here to play hockey! They are not here to read all of your signs and be flattered by them. Trust me, I doubt any of those players would be flattered anyway, even if they did see them. Although you may get some attention on TV or on the scoreboard because of your ridiculous sign, this is really embarrassing for you, and immature at the same time. Some signs are okay to bring, if you really must, such as the ones hanging from the seating sections that show support of a favorite player. Any signs that say you want to marry a player, or you love them, is ridiculous and should be left at home.

2. This is a hockey game, not a night club/bar.

Proper attire for a hockey game doesn't include mini skirts, halter tops and high heels. Please don't show up wearing that. I know America is a free country, and you can wear whatever you want, but the people sitting behind you probably don't appreciate looking down your shirt. A simple solution to this problem: If you don't own a jersey, you can go to the store, buy a t-shirt that supports your favorite team, like a black t-shirt that says "Pittsburgh Penguins" on it, or at least a decent outfit that doesn't show a lot of skin.

3. Stop with the glitter and eye makeup.

I see a lot of teenage girls doing stuff like this, coming to Pens games with gold glitter all over their faces, or face paintings of "I heart #87" (Sidney Crosby lovers). This is stupid and immature, you are guaranteed to be made fun of for it.

4. It's OK to cheer, but don't do ridiculous things to get on the scoreboard or on live TV!

No, it's not OK to jump up and down on your seat just to grab the tickets that are falling out of the Penguins blimp, or to scream at the top of your lungs for no reason just to get on camera. There are designated times to do this, such as when your team scores or the goalie makes an incredible save, or when the scoreboard flashes "Make Noise!" Any other time is annoying, distracting and stupid.

PLEASE DO: If anything...support your team!

Or any team, for that matter. If your favorite team is the Tampa Bay Lightning, and they are playing at home against the New Jersey Devils, show some support and wear your Tampa Bay colors, jerseys, t-shirt, hat, whatever you have. Just don't go overboard as stated in the above "what not to do" examples. If you're a Vincent Lecavalier fan, you can wear his jersey, just don't show up with blue 4's painted all over your face and a sign saying "Marry Me Vince!"

I have nothing against people who show their support, and I'm happy that more girls are getting into hockey. But I feel like a lot of females are only pretending to be into hockey, just because they think Sidney Crosby is hot, or hockey players in general are hot. Leave those kinds of comments in middle school, and if you really are a hockey fan, show it like an adult.

I agree with you about the inappropriate dressing, but there is no reason that you shouldn't have fun at a hockey game, plus signs are a great idea, and maybe you should try it once, and not just try to be bossy and comment on people who are outgoing enough to make signs and have fun!

I sense a jealous girl who isn't brave enough to be out going.

Well I am relieved to see you are the authority on proper game attire and etiquette. /end sarcasm!
Geez! Get a grip. Maybe you should need to spend less time judging those around you and take some of your very own advise, FOCUS ON THE GAME. If the hockey players are not going to even notice these signs/"skin"/"glitter" ect ect why should you?!

Oh, and yes, I am a female who enjoys hockey, in my teams jersey.

Cute, funny article! I could envision all of this as I read it. Great advice; I hope the young female hockey fans out there will take heed.
