What God Has For Me, It Is For Me

Dream a Little Dream

Cassondra Marshall
As humans, we are so blessed and favored, that we have been given dominion over the earth. With such power and authority in our grasps, our lives should be full of purpose. We were, in fact, designed for a purpose.

The most unattainable dream to man is not impossible to God. That's why we should never let circumstances, finances, education, or lack thereof, limit our possibilities.

Women, in particular, ought to always celebrate the privilege of having dreams and the freedom to pursue those dreams. There were times when, by and large, women were confined to only certain roles. Changing times have afforded our generation with opportunities about which many of our female ancestors only dared to dream.

But today, for every possible combination of size, color, shape, hair color, hair style, tone of voice, and skin type of women and girls, there are a hundred times more combinations of the possibilities and opportunities that God has in store for our lives. The range of goals, dreams, and possibilities from which we have to choose is as diverse as the population of women throughout the world.

And the most beautiful part about it is that no matter how impossible your dream may seem, no one can discount it except God. I imagine that people looked at Bessie Coleman like she had antlers growing out of her head when she told them that she wanted to be a pilot. In fact, because she was African-American and female, she was denied admission to American flight schools. Coleman didn't give up on her dream. She traveled to France where she completed a ten-month course in only seven months. She received her license from the renowned Federation Aeronautique Internationale(FAI) on June 15, 1921 and be came the first African-American woman to become an airplane pilot and the first American woman to hold an international pilot's license.

If an African-American woman could become an international pilot in 1921, just imagine what you can be today. The bible tells us in Proverbs that "Without a vision, the people perish." Why do you think this is so? Can you imagine a life with no vision, no dreams, no purpose?

For some of us, it's the promise of an exciting career at the end of our academic paths. For some of us, it's the task of nourishing the next generation of female doctors, lawyers, congresswomen, and even Presidents. For others, it's the mission of setting yet another precedence to further assert that God can open doors for us that no man can close. And still, for others, there is an endless number of goals which we can strive to attain.

Whatever your dream may be, whether it be simple or complex, whether you wish to be the first or the one thousandth, just know, that as long as you have a dream, you have something to which you can look forward. And no matter what has or hasn't happened in the past, or what the rules may be, God is still in control of your destiny.
