Suppose, on the other hand, there was a definite beginning to our universe. The present then could be reached, but what of the beginning? What or who caused it?
Scientists have observed quantum particles pop into existence without any apparent cause. They just appear! Like magic, they just happen. And so they speculate that our universe "just happened" without any cause.
Whether an infinite amount of time has passed or whether time had a fixed beginning, there is a paradox. Either something can come from nothing or an infinite amount of time was traversed to reach the present moment.
The paradox is our clue that there is something more to reality than the physical universe and what we can measure and observe.
The title of this article is "What God is Made Of." Please join me in a thought experiment that seeks the spiritual essence of spacetime, matter, energy and the origin of our reality--the present moment.
If God is a spirit, we must look for spiritual evidence. According to Webster, the spirit is a soul; it is separate from matter. If E=MC^2, then the spirit is separate from energy as well, since Einstein showed that matter and energy are essentially the same.
So we must look for something we know is real but it can't be observed and measured like our physical reality. Let's examine a circle with a one meter radius.
If we try to find the exact center, we end up short or we pass over it. No matter how exacting our methods and measurements, we always end up with a margin of error.
Ah hah! Is the center of the circle real? Or is it imaginary? It consists of an imaginary, zero-dimensional device known as the single point. We somehow know it is there but we can't find it exactly! It is like a ghost, a spirit.
The circle is made up of an infinite number of these little spirits or points. You could say that these points are the soul or spiritual essence of the circle.
How do we prove they are real and not just imaginary? Start from the outer edge of the circle and walk along the diameter until you reach the opposite edge. Did you pass over the exact center of the circle? Of course you did--so it is real and so are all the other points that make up the circle.
The circle is analogous to our universe, and the center of the circle is analogous to the beginning of time. The infinite number of points that run along the radius to the center are analogous to infinite causes and effects that stretch back to the beginning of time.
Therefore, time need not be infinite to have infinite regression (causes and effects), nor does something need to come from nothing. Imagine time beginning from a single point. What came before that? A smaller point. Before that? Yet a smaller point and so on to an infinitesimally small point we label the exact beginning--or God.
It can't be found yet we know it is there. It is imaginary yet it is real like the center of our circle.
I submit to you that God is everywhere! You come face to face with God whenever you try to measure anything with exactitude. The margin of error is your evidence that the physical thing you are measuring is more than physical. It is also spiritual and that spiritual attribute (the exact measurement) is a piece of God.
Now consider what would happen if you could take an exact measurement of the radius of the circle. If you could somehow pin down each point along the radius and measure each one exactly, the radius would be of infinite magnitude!
We perceive things as finite but they are infinite as well because they all have a spiritual essence (points) that transcend physical reality.
In this article we have explored what God is made of, but what of his thoughts, his plans, his intentions?
Scientists explain events with physical laws, but the phrase "physical laws" is somewhat deceptive in that the laws are not physical in and of themselves. They are once again imaginary concepts that are also real.
They are not made of matter nor energy or anything physical, they are therefore another spiritual reality--another piece of God. They are his conduct, his actions. His intentions, thoughts and plans can be inferred from his conduct--the events that happen.
Thank you for joining me in this journey to find what God is made of.

Post a CommentVery cool article Pinn!!!! I have missed your writings!!!! : ) You always get my brain thinking... since knowing you its grown 2 sizes you know. lol. Tis true, although science would say otherwise. hehe.
Vincent, thanks for reading. There is nothing in the Bible that states unequivically that God is in one location and can't be omnipresent. I would venture to guess that God can do and be what ever he pleases. He does not need to conform to your chosen beliefs. You are his servent, not the other way around. With respect to getting to know him, I can go by what you and other mortals profess to know about him or I can simply meditate or pray (aka: ruminate). I find the latter process more effective.
It's an interesting way to approach God. I notice you say he is everywhere. Did you know that in actuality he has a location? That he is not "omnipresent?" In His Word, read please Hebrews 9:24 and Revelation 7:15. Unfortunately, we can't learn about Him by our own ruminations.
