1. You get to eat out and maybe for free. Eating out is a nice treat, and if your date paid for the food, a free meal out is even better. It's always good to have someone to eat with at a restaurant anyway because it's awkward to go to dinner alone.
2. You get out of the house. Even a bad adventure is better than no adventure. Spending the night alone in your apartment is boring. A date, even a bad one, is a change in routine, and everyone likes to change it up a bit at times.
3. You get home at a respectable hour. If you accidentally make a bit of noise coming in or disturb the local dogs, you won't have to worry about waking your neighbors. Also, getting home earlier means you don't have to be as nervous about any lurking creeps and you may arrive in time to catch your favorite show.
4. You get to feel pretty. A date is the best excuse to show off your favorite dress and those sexy heels you bought but never had a reason to wear. You get to feel glamorous and dolled up regardless of the results. So what he turned out to be a jerk? You look fab in your outfit!
5. You get to let your guard down. Once you realize the date is going badly, the pressure to be impressive is somewhat lifted. You don't have to watch everything you do and be very careful not to ruin the date, so you will more easily be yourself. Who knows? This may actually save the date and make it better than it would have been.
6. You get a story to tell. Admit it. You know it's fun to compare funny and terrible dating stories with your girlfriends. Now you'll have your own humorous tale to share.
7. You get a life lesson. When I asked my friends input for this article, one of them told me that the best thing she'd gotten out of a bad date was the lesson that just because a guy looks good doesn't mean he is good. That lesson and others like it are probably some of the best things you could get out of bad dates. After all, we learn about life by living life, and even the worst dates teach us something for the future.
