What Are Gordas De Horno?

Pure Writing
This next article is a dessert that is made in the country side of Mexico. The name of this food is called Gordas de Horno (Mexican oven baked bread), and I love this dessert. Gordas de Horno are sold by street vendors throughout Mexican cities in Mexico. In this article I will discuss what Gordas de Horno are, and how they are baked.

Gordas de Horno is basically oven baked corn bread that is sweet, and made from scratch. Gordas de Horno are usually made during Christmas time all over the country side of Mexico, and they taste very sweet and full of corn flavor. I usually enjoy Gordas de Horno in Mexico with a cup of sugarless Atole (Mexican corn based drink), and the mixture is really good. Gordas de Horno are usually made in different molds of coffee cans, and canned food cans. Gordas de Horno have the best taste when they are freshly baked that same day. Women that make Gordas de Horno in Mexico have been making these treats for years, and they have perfected the baking process. Which includes using Piloncillo (Mexican solid brown sugar), and Mexican cheese.

To bake or make Gordas de Horno you will need to make a small outside brick oven that has a small door on one end, and a small chimney on top. First, take mesquite wood for flavoring and burn it to heat the oven to extreme temperatures, then make sure you have burning ashes in there before you put the Gordas de Horno in there. Gordas de Horno consist of dried corn on the cob, the corn is boiled to soften up, then it's grind to perfection to make the dough. And, I'm sure there is other ingredients but I'm not aware of them. Making Gordas de Horno is a family process, and the families in the country side of Mexico usually gather to help out to bake Gordas de Horno. I usually help in the lighting of the mesquite in the outside oven, but the baking process is a long process that requires patience and a lot of skills and art.

When I usually go to Mexico I bring back to the United States a basket full of Gordas de Horno, because they are not sold in the United States. The bad thing of bringing Gordas de Horno back to the United States is that my cousins eat them all up.
