What is the Green Smoothie Challenge?

The Green Smoothie Challenge is a very nice way to start your New Year. It can be one of your New Year Resolutions, and a way to lose those unwanted pounds, especially those you gained from Thanksgiving to New Year's day.

Maria Rippo has launched the first world-wide Green Smoothie Challenge as a way to spread the word about a natural and efficient way to lose weight. According to the official Green Smoothie Challenge web site, the most effective plan involves drinking only green smoothies and eating fresh fruits and veggies for 1, 3, 5, or 10 days.

So after reading this introduction you will be probably asking yourself why green smoothies? You probably know that The American Cancer Society recommends to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables everyday. A great way to accomplish this is by blending everything (fruits and vegetables) is a smoothie.

To make a smoothie you just put all your greens and fruits in a high power blender with ice and some mint (for flavor) and hit the blend button. After a while you will get a rich flavory blend known as smoothie (the components in fruits and vegetables act as emulsifiers and gives the blend a smooth semi-viscous consistency).

According to the http://www.thegreensmoothiechallenge.com/, green smoothies are rich in protein, nutrients, enzymes, chlorophyll and fiber. These components will cleanse, repair, rebuild and purify your body.

Why is it a challenge?

I guess the challenge part is the taste of the smoothies. If you grew hating vegetables this may be the time to overcome that feeling and enjoy a natural drink full of health promoting components. You will probably have to become creative to overcome some taste notes of smoothies. The idea is to mix green vegetables with fruits to mask the possibly unwanted greens flavor. So if you do not lake kale, mix it with strawberries and banana and you will get a great flavor plus the benefits of the smoothie.

Want some Green Smoothie recipes?

Go to the official Green Smoothie Challenge web site. You have some recipes there. But essentially, mix fruits and greens in a blender with some water and some spices (if you wish) and there you have it. Experiment, make your own green smooth recipe.
