What Are Grommets and Why Are They Important?

Jack Rella

Vinyl banners generally come standard with brass or nickel grommets in the corners and spaced along the hem about every 2 to 4 to 8 ft. depending on the banner length. In most cases this will be adequate but if you need additional grommets you will need to put that on the "additional information' screen on the banner printing website. The importance of grommets cannot be taken lightly. Without grommets your hanging material might just rip through the vinyl banner signs material.

Using Grommets for Display

When you order vinyl banners they come with heavy duty sturdy metal grommets at each corner. The importance of grommets is that if you are ordering larger vinyl banners they come with the metal grommets evenly spaced along the edges of the banner so you can easily and safely hang your vinyl banner and not have to worry that it will blow down. You can hang banners using zip ties which are very easy to do. Or you can hang them with bungee cords which will absorb some of the breeze action so that the banner will not snap off of the location where you hung it. Chain link fences make an ideal location to hang vinyl banners from using bungee cords.

Other Forms of Display using Grommet Holes

If you are hanging the banners indoors on a wall the importance of grommets here is that you can use a clear headed stick pin and push it though the grommet hole to affix it to the wall. The clear plastic head can't be seen and it will appear the banner is almost a part of the wall. This makes a nice looking advertising display. Or you can use anL shaped screw and actually hook the metal grommet over the bottom of theL so it actually hangs from this piece. If the grommet is grey metal buy grey pieces or if brass buy the brass color so they are not easily seen on the display.

Sturdy Hanging

So the importance of grommets is that they should grip the vinyl or other banner fabric tightly and they don't fall or pull out easily. They may be within the two pieces of fabric at the hems. They can be attached by hand or with a grommet attaching pieces of equipment. These are available to banner manufacturers. However no matter how it was attached it should be sturdy.
