What is Habba Syndrome and Who is Dr. Habba?

There is a lot of talk about Habba Syndrome. What is it and who is Habba? Dr. Saad Habba is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons which is in Ireland. He has been in practice for 30 years as a gastroenterologist. A Gastroenterologist is a doctor who works with the colon area. If you are over 50 you should have had a colonoscopy by now. Dr. Habba is an attending consultant physician at Overlook Hospital in New Jersey and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He has presented and published in 24 national and international medical journals and symposia.

He is an author of a chapter in Conn's Current Therapy, a textbook of medicine. He holds a US patent (serial No. 4675284) on "Improved Process and Apparatus for Evaluating Liver Disease." In 2007, he was listed in Guide to America's Top Physicians by the Consumers Research Council of America. (wikipedia)

Habba Syndrome named for the discover, Dr. Habba, is a disease whose symptoms include chronic
diarrhea (three or more stools a day which are usually watery and without blood.) which can be painful.

However, you may have no pain with this disease. The diarrhea usually happens at night.

If you think you have this you can have a scan of the gallbladder. You'll want an HIDA scan. "HIDA scan is an imaging procedure that helps your doctor tracks the production and flow of bile from your liver to your small intestine. Bile is a fluid produced by your liver that helps your digestive system break down fats in the foods you eat.

An HIDA scan, which stands for hepatobiliary iminodiacetic acid scan, creates pictures of your liver, gallbladder, biliary tract and small intestine. A HIDA scan can also be called cholescintigraphy, hepatobiliary scintigraphy or hepatobiliary scan" Mayoclinic.com.

To help this condition you may be given a bile acid binders called. Cholestyremine. This is a cholesterol blocking medication.

Not all doctors are even aware of this syndrome. Although it looks like IBS it is not so if your doctor is calling what you have IBS and you have not been tested insist that you are so you get the proper medication and treatment.
