Now seasons one through I say five (some say four) were just fantastic out of this world. These girls are quippy, smart, beautiful, kind and kooky. Everything you want in a girlfriend! The rest of the town fits in so well! After I heard Amy Sherman Palladino based the town on Washington Depot, I honestly considered moving from Texas to Connecticut. The mother daughter relationship was the focus of the show. It was like nothing else on at the time. Not a teenage break up make up I'm pregnant drama, but a show about family, and life in a small town. Granted there was a teen in the show, and she did have friends and boyfriends and her share of drama but that was not the focal point.
That is.... until season 6. After the girls had their spat when Rory dropped out of Yale, it was never the same. How do you continue a show about mothers and daughters with their witty engaging and intelligent conversations when the two aren't even speaking! Rory used to be the epitome of good. Smart, hardworking, driven, with a good moral backbone and a good head on her shoulders. All of a sudden she's incredibly fashionable, believing people when they slam her and her effort, dating jerks, and sleeping with married men, not to mention shunning her own mother! What happened to the old Rory? I've lost all the respect I had for her. And Lorelai isn't making the hottest choices here either! What is she doing with her life? Luke, Christopher, Luke Christopher. Come on now. The whole marriage to Christopher was doomed from the very begining. Just seeing him in the house Luke and Lorelai worked so hard on drove me nuts!
This goes beyond a fan angered when characters don't do as she wishes. I've known these girls for five years, and I'm thinking they're out of their minds! Even the actors feel it, because the once rapid fire dialogue is forced and awkward, probably because Alexis and Lauren know its just all wrong. Lorelai and Christopher? No! Rory and Logan? No! I'm actually a little relieved that the show has ended because honestly-- this show has "jumped the shark." When the original writers feel the need to bail, and rumors fly about a leading lady wanting out-- plus the addition of twins, and a mystery daughter.... enough is enough. I guess I'll just try to remember the girls as they used to be!
