What Happens When a Student Nurse Approaches Graduation

Heaven Lee
When a student nurse approaches graduation, the thoughts of starting a new career in nursing comes to mind. A new nurse should think very seriously about career objectives. The goals must include long term as well as short-term objectives. As with any career path that a person chooses, it is generally not random. Every person who seeks an education usually does so with plans and directions for their immediate goals as well as their long term ones. The objective of graduating from a program in nursing determines that the graduate who plans ahead will be ready for what lies ahead. Nothing that is worth doing should be done arbitrarily. These things demand preparation. Even if someone considered going into the nursing field, clear prerequisites must be accomplished in advance. To graduate from a nursing program is another transition period that should be approached with the equal dedication and preparation that was first applied.

Everyone has their own exclusive dreams on their career goals. It's never too early to start considering your career goals. The field of nursing attracts people for various reasons. The first reason is that a nurse is the front line person in assisting others and saving their lives. In most cases, the nurse will discover a patient who must have emergency attention before the physician arrives. It is often up to the nurse to react in accordance with the span of their practice and what the hospital procedures are. Why does this aspect of nursing attract so many? It is because this type of accountability is not that far from the type of responsibility those physicians have, which is what many nurses hoped to become before they became nurses.

Nurses didn't have that vital level of accountability in the beginning. Many patients died because of this. For example, a nurse from the past most likely didn't know the therapeutic values of blood gases or electrolytes, thus often putting the health of the patient in jeopardy. Today, the nurse is required to know all of the relevant lab values and take immediate action on any changes, either by contacting the doctor or executing orders.

Another attractive aspect of nursing is when the nurse uses remedial communication and treats the patient's reaction to real versus perceived illnesses. This is the foundation of which nursing is based on. The holistic method is largely successful in assisting patients healing. I totally believe that for an individual to be able to heal on the outside, they must first heal on the inside. The nurse can therefore assist patients in adapting and growing in a positive rather than negative matter. Because nursing is solely based on confirmed practice, it is thrilling to put the scientific techniques to use. There are logical and demonstrable reasons that nurses must take particular courses of action.

There are short-term goals, which attract people to the profession of nursing. Short-term career goals consist of effectively passing Nursing 255, as well as passing the national nursing board exams. Once you have accomplished this, you can hope to work on a medical-surgical floor and sharpen your skills as a graduate nurse. Many choose medical-surgical nursing as a beginning point because this specific field helps to develop their clinical skills.

To become an active member in the profession of nursing, you should join the American Nurses Association, go to seminars and lobby for the improvement of nursing programs.
