What Having a Goose for a Watch Dog Can Be Like

Choosing a Goose for a Pet, or a Watch Dog

Ever considered what a goose would be like as a watch dog? We used to have a goose, we did not have him for a watch dog, but he sure would do some strange things around people.

If you have been bitten by a goose, you would know that they are painful. It is not something that will kill you, but it will hurt.

For the ten years I was around our goose, I had been blessed to have never been bitten by him. I had some close encounters, but have manged to escape his beaks.

Other people that have encountered him where not so blessed. Sometimes strangers that did not know about him, would first discover him after being bitten. They will confess to you, that the bite is very painful.

I have been to a class field trip in school, and have seen people feeding geese, they were not watching them, and one of them snuck up and bit someone on the leg. When a goose will bite someone, they will scream, and sometimes filthy, bad language would be mixed in with it.

My cousin used to live here, and slept in the backyard area, with the full knowledge of the goose, he would make his trip that way at night, and our goose would still sneak up on him and give him a bite.

A goose will make a lot of noise as well, when someone suddenly walks up, they will start doing their honk. Our goose would honk when anyone walked out back, and they also will honk when something is a danger to them, like a lose dog.

There is something that needs to be considered when making a choice to get a goose. These birds love to fly when the seasons change, and when a flock of geese will fly over, those geese will invite your goose to fly with them, and your goose will be glad to leave home.

The only reason the goose we had stayed around, was because his wings had been broken, and did not heal correctly, this permanently damaged his wings. My father has told me that he could tell he wanted to fly away with the flocks, and that it made him upset because he could not get off the ground.

One more thing to consider if getting a goose, is that he will bite anyone, and that includes children, babies, and yourself. Our goose would bite my mother while she hanged close up to dry, and he would do it even though he trusted her, and was always around her.

I know a goose will bite their babies that they love when danger comes around, it has something to do with getting them to run and hide.

Having this goose around was a blessing, and when anyone walked into the back yard, everyone at home knew it right away. Its for the honking and biting that I suggest a goose as a guard dog. I also give warning that he will attack anyone that gets close to him.

A goose will alert you when someone comes around. A goose will also bite anyone, including those closest to him.

Very interesting! I never thought of a goose an a guard animal, but they are certainly noisy and aggressive enough!
