What is Hidden Inside the Health Care Bill

David Gillis
According to the House Republican leader John Boehner, the Democratic leadership has decided not to use the parliamentary trick to pass the health care bill. I personally believe they abandoned this plan because they must feel they either have enough votes to pass the bill or they do not believe the process would clear the Supreme Court.

Because the Constitution declares both houses of Congress must pass the bill before it is sent to the president, the Democrats must have heeded the warnings. If the democrats have decided to place the vote for all to see, a filibuster is most likely in the works. With anti-healthcare protests on the steps of the House and the democrats declaring on C-SPAN that the people want this bill, it seems the game is on.

What is wrong with Washington? When they ignore the majority of Americans and those who have been in Washington for decades decide they know better than the American people do, something is just not right. If the American people have read this bill, they would understand what is actually happening. The health care bill not only helps the poor but it also could destroy our economy and health care system. I personally do not wish to be told I must purchase health insurance and that insurance must be a plan that Washington ok's. I do not believe unions should get a pass on their Cadillac healthcare if the rest of us are going to be forced to pay high taxes on our plans.

According to the Republican Ways and Means website by Dave Camp, by the year 2018, union health care plans will be exempt from the 40% tax on Cadillac health care plans. That just does not sound fare to me, what about you? Also, " (2) an individual mandate tax on Americans who do not purchase government-approved health insurance, (3) an increase in the 7.5% AGI floor for medical expense deductions to 10%, (4) limits on Flexible Spending Accounts in cafeteria plans, (5) increased penalties for nonqualified HSA distributions, (6) other restrictions on Health Savings Accounts, Health Reimbursement Accounts, and Flexible Spending Accounts, (7) a tax on tanning services, (8) an employer mandate tax, (9) a sales tax on medical devices, (10) a tax on health insurance premiums, (11) a tax on prescription drugs, and (12) a tax on insured and self-insured health plans.

To me, this is just a job killer. Who will pay these taxes? We will that is who; the American people will pay these taxes. If an employer must pay more in taxes, they will not have as much to spend on hiring new employees or building a new plant. To me it seems to be a no-brainer that this health care bill is nothing but a stagnation bill. Everything I have read about this has me stumped. There are good proposals in this bill, but the bad proposals overshadow every one of them. If this bill is passed, not only will unemployment be high, things could become a lot worse.

The object is to cover more people with less money and less doctors, how can that be good? We must purchase our own "Government Approved Health care Plan" or the IRS will be knocking on our door to pay the fine. I believe it would be better to drop all insurance except for Major Medical and let the people pay the doctor for what they need when they need it. I know that I don't want my doctor's office to look like the Post Office, but it is looking more and more like this will be the case.
