Some of the guidelines on homeopathic medicine are as follows:-

Homeopathy is a natural mode of medical treatment that can be safely adopted along with conventional modes of therapy. The homeopathy medicines are free from the harmful side-effects often caused by drugs used in the traditional method of treatment.

- To obtain the best results from homeopathy treatment, it is advisable that nothing should be taken at least 15 minutes before as well as after taking the medicine.

- The medicine that is in globular form should be taken on the tongue and sucked. It will dissolve itself. It should not be chewed.

- The best time for taking a homeopathic medicine is early in the morning in empty stomach, unless otherwise specified by the homeopath who has prescribed the remedy.

- In case of fevers, the medicine should be taken when the temperature is receding.

- In case of diarrhea or nausea, the medicine should be taken after evacuation or vomiting.

- For homeopathic treatments at home, medicines of 30C or 12C potency are favorable.

- The pellets should not be touched by hand as the hand may contain substances that can contaminate the medicine and interfere with its healing action.

- The medicine should be stopped only when the complaints have fully waned. If the symptoms return, the medicine can be used again. If the acute stage is not ebbed even after 24 hours, another medicine should be chosen according to changed symptoms.

- If the symptoms are aggravated immensely after taking one or more doses of the remedy, especially if they grow suddenly worse within half an hour of taking the medicine, the medicine should be stopped. If the aggravation was caused due to the medicine, the symptoms will gradually be abated. But if that does not happen, the next indicated remedy should be chosen and the doses should be administered at long intervals.

- If some relief to the symptoms is noticeable after applying a remedy, it should be continued, but the intervals between the doses should be lengthened as natural health becomes restored.

- If there is no significant improvement of health conditions even after taking eight doses of the medicine, a trained and experienced homeopathy practitioner should be consulted. The doctor must be consulted if the disease persists for over three days.

Patients under homeopathy treatment should avoid high-seasoned dishes and all condiments with the exception of salt and sugar. Even these should be sparingly used. Pungent smelling food materials should be shunned.

During a homeopathy treatment, consumption of alcohol, tobacco and opium should be avoided. If the patient is long addicted to the use of such items, they should partake of such items sparingly or discontinue their use gradually.

Medicines should be purchased from reliable firms and should be stored in places protected from dust, smoke, sunlight, strong odors and away from allopathic drugs, tinctures, ointments and camphor. The medicines should preferably be stored in a wooden or a steel box or cupboard.

A patient may consider taking up the course on treatment rather than resorting to the conventional treatment process, in case of an ailment. The proper used on medicine need to be of comfort level to a patient before self-admistration can occur. You need to know what can do best for you during different circumstances.
