What I'd like to See with the PS4

There is no doubt in my mind there will be a PlayStation 4. For Sony however, it will be a challenge to redeem from the damage that was done with the PS3 and why it hasn't been as big of a success as it could have been. A 1st impression is only given once and if the PS4 can come out the gate strong and come out with games that is going to be exclusive and make them different from the next generation games coming out for Microsoft and Nintendo at the moment, they could do well. That is another story but here is what I would like to see actually with the PS4.

Menu

When starting up the PS4 if there is no game involved, it should have a menu picking which games you wish to play. Whether it be either the PS3, PS2, or even the original PS1 systems. The default setting would be PS4 and emulators would be built inside the system so that it would be a gamer the experience games from the older models in Sony's history. It doesn't have to actually show the case in higher graphics, as long as it can be seen without trouble, then it should be no problem. Also, emulation is a big key in the market anymore since Nintendo has the Virtual Console and Microsoft has Xbox Live Arcade. I don't see why Sony can't go in that direction. If it means adding 3 different emulators and making sure it can run every game for the respective systems, then so be it. It would be great to see it working at 100% and have all titles working.

2 CD Trays

Much like how some computers have 2 CD/DVD Burners for example, maybe it would work this way the best but not a major requirement. Again, it comes down to if the PS4, maybe one for PS4 and PS3 games to be played and one for PS2 and PS1 but again it's not a major necessity.

There really isn't a lot that needs to be put in the PS4 but it doesn't need to go overboard with the Blu-Ray and hype that up. What it really needs is to come up with star franchises. It needs a go to franchise that will send a message to people saying that this is the reason to buy this system, this game. If they want to attract gamers, it needs a standout franchise for sure. If however gaming is not the direction they choose, then it probably not succeed in the next round.

I do not know what year it will come out but I can't imagine it being no later than in the year 2011. It shall give the PS3 time to see if it can do something if that is the intent. If not, then it will be time to learn from the mistakes of the previous console and try to improve on it.

Emulation has been involved in this generation as the Wii with the Virtual Console and the 360 with Xbox Live Arcade.

See, i think emulation for the PS4 will be easy because actually, the ps3 and ps2 don't have emulators in them to play ps1 or ps2 games. Its just that they all have the same core machine language. There might be a little bit of emulation involved, but not much. I think it will come out in 2012 or 2013 because the console life cycle is like 5 or 6 years.
