For instance, a few weeks ago I was surprised to notice that my Barnes & Noble Nook had stopped charging, even when plugged into the wall. My unit was refurbished, but still had a warranty. Nevertheless, I did everything I could to avoid sitting through a return authorization call.
Here are a few things to try if your Barnes & Noble Nook stops charging or charges inconsistently.
Change chargers or connect to a computer. There are a few components that could be damaged when the Nook isn't charging. It would be best if it was the AC charger itself, so start there. Try plugging your Nook into another charger if you have one or into a computer. If that doesn't work, try replacing the cable--it's a standard mini USB connection, so many cell phones use the same cables (however, the chargers are different--don't use a cell phone charger on your Nook).
Check the miniUSB port. If that doesn't work, the problem may be with your Nook. The little mini USB port can pick up dust and there's a very small part that can break off. Look inside and very gently clean out the Nook with a dry microfiber cloth, then try plugging it in again. Don't force anything and don't use harsh chemicals. You'll risk damaging it and ruining your warranty.
Call Barnes and Noble customer service. I had a very pleasant experience with Barnes & Noble's customer service line, although I did wait on hold for about 15 minutes and the person who picked up referred to me as "ma'am" immediately. Basically, Barnes and Noble will send you a new Nook and a shipping label to return your broken Nook if you've tried everything to make it charge and it simply won't work.
Remember, you've probably registered your Nook already if you're buying books on it, and even if you own a refurbished model, you'll have a limited 1 year warranty. Take advantage of it if you can--a Nook that won't charge isn't very useful.
Sell your Nook online. If you don't have a warranty for your nook, never fear--you may be able to sell it online. The other components work fine, so you should be able to get a few bucks for it. Use a website like eBay, and be up front with your buyers that the Barnes and Noble Nook won't charge. You may be able to get a large percentage of its original price from someone who doesn't mind digging into it to switch out a few parts.
