I a Border Collie and we had to take her to the vet las tnight which was horrible. I know when something is wrong with my dog because she is very hyper all day long.
Yesterday she was not herself. I knew something was wrong with her because her anus was swollen and it looked like something was coming out of her back end. It looked kinda like she was giving birth to puppies, but I know that is not the case because she was fixed a long time ago.
I called our local vet, whom I used to babysit for, and I told her of the situation with my dog and she asked me if I could bring her over because the situtation did not sound normal to her.
This was about 10 at night, and we took my dog over to the vet and found out that she has an impacted anal sac.
Dogs have two anal sacs on each side of their anus and the right one was impacted on my dog. My dog was in pain all day and I could not help her or give her any relief because the vet was not home all day because of course it was Easter Sunday.
When we got to the vet's office, she had to give her a shot to mellow her out because the vet could get nowhere near her because she was in too much pain. After have mellowed out, the vet opened the impacted anal sac by hand and made it a little better for my dog, but she also put her on some antibiotics too so that drainage would dry up.
The vet told me and my husband that if the anal sac does not become unpacked or if it becomes unpacked and then becomes impacted again, then we are gonna have to bring her back to the vet and she is going to have to knock her all the way out and put a catheter in her and flush the contents out that way.
Animals are just like humans especially if the animal is a part of you family because it is very hard losing an animal as it is very hard losing a family member. I was so upset last night over my dog being in pain that I was hoping I would not have to say good bye to her one last time.
Me and my husband have had our dog for 7 years and it is very hard to deal with almost losing her. It is also very hard trying to deal with losing her someday in our lives.
I cried all night long until she came out of her mellow stage. Me and my husband stayed up all night with her until she woke up to make sure she was ok. We do not have any kids right now, but she is like our kid. Like a mother I could not leave her by herself I had to stay with her.
So if anybody is having problems with their animals like my recent problem, this is what it could be. Get them to the vet as soon as possible because if you do not they could get a really bad infection and die.

Post a CommentThanks Lora,I read your post and took my dog to the vet and it was the same thing.except she only had to digially break the 2 sacs. within 1/2 hour he was eating and on the road to being fine again. The vet said that sometimes this must be done every 3-4 m0nths. I hope not.
