What I'm Looking Forward to in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Jennifer Amlie
When Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is released this July, it will be the end of an era for fans. This is going to be the last Harry Potter movie and there are scenes from the book I hope they get right. Since the first part of the Deathly Hallows movie covered most of the book, the second part should be able to include everything fans want to see. Here is what I'm hoping the movie gets right.

Aberforth Dumbledore
In the Deathly Hallows book, Aberforth plays a small but extremely important role. As Albus' brother, he explains Professor Dumbledore's past to the trio and also helps them escape Dementors. Since most of the Dumbledore story line was cut from Deathly Hallows: Part 1, it will be interesting to see exactly how much is reveal about the troubled family's past.

Neville Longbottom
Since Harry, Ron, and Hermione didn't return to Hogwarts, Neville only makes a short appearance in the first movie. In last half of the book, he shines as the rebellious student leader of the Voldemort resistance. It's from Neville we learn how horrible the situation at Hogwarts has become. It's also due Neville's bravery and strength that when the trio return to Hogwarts, they have so many willing students ready to help them. Let's not forget Neville's brilliant moment when he defies Voldemort and takes down Nagini. I hope Deathly Hallows: Part 2 captures Neville's transformation as well as the book did.

Hermione Destroying the Cup
In the Deathly Hallows book, we hear second hand about Hermione and Ron going to the Chamber of Secret to destroy the Hufflepuff cup horcrux. In the movie we will actually see it. While this is a change from the book, I think it will be a good one. If down correctly, it will show Ron improvising Parseltongue to enter the Chamber, Hermione dealing with the piece of Voldemort trapped in the Horcrux, and maybe this is where their kiss will take place in the movie.

Snape's Death and the Prince's Tale
One of the most poignant parts of the Deathly Hallows book was the circumstances surrounding Snape's death and the memories he gives to Harry before he dies. I understand certain aspects of his death, where it takes place for instance, will be changed. I have faith in Alan Rickman's characterization of Snape and think this scene will feel just like in did in the book. As for the memories, I realize they can't show us every one from the book. As long as the movie makes Snape's overall story clear, I will be happy.

Forest Again
Another tear-jerking part of the Deathly Hallows book is Harry's walk into the forest to met Voldemort. By using the Resurrection Stone, his parents, Sirius, and Lupin accompany him. Harry knows he must sacrifice himself to help defeat Voldemort and the exchanges he has with the spirits of his deceased loved ones is heartbreaking. I hope the movie doesn't rush through this part or downplay its emotional impact.

Molly's Duel with Bellatrix
Molly, the kind, loving mother of the Wealsey clan confronts and kills the crazed Death Eater Bellatrix in the moments leading up to Harry's duel with Voldemort. What makes this scene so powerful is Molly's fierce need to protect her children and the other students caught up in the battle. Of course, the filmmakers better keep in the very awesome "Not my daughter, you bitch!" line she says before she duels Bella. If they don't, they may have rioting fans to deal with.

Epilogue: Harry Tells Albus Severus About Snape
I know they filmed the Epilogue of Deathly Hallows where it shows the trio and their families 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts. It's a nice way to show "all was well" in the Wizarding World. The most important part of the Epilogue, for me, is when Harry and Ginny's son, Albus Severus, is worried he will be sorted in Slytherin. Harry explains there's nothing wrong with the House and that Albus Severus was named after a Slytherin who was one of the bravest men he knew (Snape). This moment is important in both the book and movie because it shows after all these years, Harry has come to respect and understand Snape.

I think the first half of the film was done so well, they will manage to keep it going through the second half. If they mess up Snape's story in this, it will be a disaster! I too think they need to get Neville's role perfect - it was absolutely a waste of film to have him appear for three secons in the first half *lol* Great work on this, Jenn! I am excited again now!
