What I'm Looking Forward to Over the Summer

Natasha Stiller
I'm looking forward to many things over summer break, a breath of freedom, time to plan and organize, as well as enjoy hobbies and extracurricular activities that there isn't time for during the school year.

Being in school myself, I'll have an academic break, preparing to complete my final internship in the Fall before getting my teaching certificate. I look forward to having time to myself to truly think for myself and not have details related to specific class information or assignments.

I'm looking forward to reflection time - situations and strategies that worked for me this past year and what I can do to improve upon them. I'm looking forward to organizing all of my activities and lessons into their appropriate themes or subjects so that they're not scattered all over.

I'm looking forward to having some time to delve into new projects, since this will be the first time I've had a long break in almost three years. I want to start sewing, crafting, and reading books that have been sitting on my shelves for moments when I could steal time or find extra time - and never have.

Summer is a rejuvenating experience for all teachers. We have enough time to miss being in the classroom, before being excited to get back into the classroom and plan for the upcoming school year. It is important for every person to have a break and have some rejuvenation time. This is one of the best luxuries of being a teacher - that we have this time off. I am looking forward to spending as much time reveling and enjoying time with my own children: sleeping in, staying up late, swimming, playing games, and having fun. That's what summer is all about.

Sounds like a great use of time to me! Spending time with the kiddos and getting a break from college- that's what I'm doing too!
