What Can Inspire an Aspiring Writer?

Just Some Thoughts

Elizabeth Tabian-Sosin
When I started writing, I mean really writing, I was telling a personal story. One that I felt had to be told. Moreover, I might never have gotten the chance to tell that story if it had not been for another writer who told me about AC. This writer, Pamela Gardapee, helped me get started as a published writer. That's the long and short of it. I was already a writer, just not a paid one. She helped me and now, we are helping each other by sharing links on our prospective blogs. This is where part of my inspiration to keep writing comes from.

Other writers who tell stories or share interesting ideas inspire me to dig deep within myself and find that story that needs to be told. These are not the only people who inspire me, though. Not by a long shot. No, I have lots of inspiration. More than I realized, actually.

Everyday, no matter what my day brings, I find inspiration in my son, Matthew. Matt is Autistic. This, as many people know, is a rising epidemic in this country. So, I write about Autism. I write about Matt and his achievements. I share these inspirational stories to give others hope. In addition, sometimes I just find an interesting topic and start writing about it. Of course, there are so many that I have taken the advice of fellow writers and started a list. Things that I want to write about and things that mean something special to me will end up filling my hard drive because, I am inspired.

All of us find inspiration in the strangest of things. Some, like me, find inspiration in obscure and cheesy cartoons from 20 years ago. Others find inspiration in movies, celebrities, or animals. I have many ideas. I hope that I will be able to share them all.

We, as writers, should do what Pam did for me. Take a new writer under your wing. Show them the ropes of how things work out there. You do not necessarily have to share everything, but at least they will know where to get started.

We need to be an inspiration to each other. The more we inspire each other, the more things will be out there that could inspire others. Rather like a domino effect. Consider it an experiment in social physics. For every inspiration, there would be an equal (not opposite) inspiration. Sounds cheesy, I know. Think it over.

Start with our young people. In this crazy world, they need all the help they can get. By writing powerful, inspirational words, we can help them do great things. At least that's my theory!
