What Do Kids and Cancer Have in Common? Hope

"Letters to God" Will Premier in Theaters Across America on April 9th

Michele Starkey
"Letters to God" is the true story about 8 year-old Tyler who wrote letters addressed to God and it is the basis for this film set to premier across America on April 9th. Tyler wrote his letters to God as a form of prayer to help himself deal with his cancer. This true story is one of faith and hope and how Tyler coped with the disease. It sheds light on the impact that his faith in God had impact on his family, his classmates and his community. The bible says, "And, a child shall lead them..." (Isaiah 11:6)

Possibility Pictures is a Christian film production company - the likes of which is compared to DreamWorks. David Nixon, the director of "Letters to God" also co-produced great family-friendly films like "Facing the Giants" and "Fireproof". I have seen both of these films and can attest to the quality of them and the message they deliver. If "Letters to God" is half as good as these other Nixon productions, I'll be standing in line to purchase my movie ticket.

Cancer and kids - these are two words that should never have to be used in the same sentence. We all know some of them though and their heartbreaking stories. Take for instance, Maria Roth and her daughter Audrey. You can read about their story here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2407264/coping_with_a_childs_cancer_diagnosis.html?cat=25

If you or someone you know is living with cancer, I urge you to contact the Know Cancer Community at: http://www.knowcancer.com/community

This from their website,

"The Know Cancer Community was created to unite the World in the fight against cancer. It is a new kind of Cancer Social Network where you can connect with others, share your stories, and find support. It is a place where you can seek inspiration and provide empowerment."

Much of the movie takes place at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando. They offer compassion and care for pediatric cancer. When my oldest brother was fighting brain cancer, there was a child in his ward - waiting to be transferred. Frank said, "Pray for the little children. They have so much to live for." We continue to pray for all of the kids who are affected by this awful disease.

Arnold Palmer's hospital is a place of Hope and there is always hope. It comes from the community that surrounds you, lifts you - the people who love you. It is a silent prayer offered up to God, written by a child.

I hope this is one movie that touches many hearts - for a "child shall lead them."

I haven't heard of this movie. I have seen the other two, Facing the Giants and Fireproof. This one sounds like a tear-jerker.

I've had cancer, and I'm one of those that doesn't like to think about it. Kids have so much more resiliency.

I can't imagine being a parent and having to deal with a child's cancer. My prayers go out to any parent who has to watch a child endure this kind of disease.

One of my best friends died of cancer. He was only 15, when he died in '75. We've made significant strides since then, but not enough really. Gonna be one of those movies you can't failed to be moved by.
