What Kind of Jobs Can a Medical Administrator Do?

Medical administration jobs include anything from temporary to permanent opportunities and on contractual and direct hour basis. There are various job opportunities that are lucrative and diverse in their job description within the field of medical administration. Though not very challenging these jobs are preferable for those people who have above average organizational skills and the ability to manage procedures without hassle.

Medical Assistant
One of the growing job opportunities within the field of medical administration is that of medical assistant. To become a medical assistant, you must have graduated from high school or received a GED equivalent. Work experience in the field is preferred and for growth and success in the field a certification is necessary with re-certification every five years. This certification/re-certification is the Certificate of Medical Assistants given through the American Association of Medical Assistants.

As the job of a medical assistant in the field of medical administration deals with a diverse customer base and requires management and organizational skills, you must have excellent interpersonal skills and technical know how of computers in order to succeed.

Medical Records Clerk Jobs
With the issue of liability putting the health care industry personnel at risk the job of medical administrators becomes essential for the smooth flow of the system. Medical records have to be filed and clearly referenced in order to be used by various departments within an organization. Becoming a Medical Records Clerk [MRC] is one job opportunity medical administrators should explore. The MRC performs different clerical and administrative tasks for the Records Department which may include but are not limited to: filing charts, running reports, faxing records and other duties that are required by the department.

Patient Service Associate and Medical Secretary Jobs
The posts of Patient Services Assistant Representative and Medical Secretary are somewhat similar in their scope. The job description and qualifications required remain essentially the same, while the title of the candidate may vary from organization to organization.

Both jobs require the candidate to have high school diploma or at least 2 years work experience. The post requires attention to detail and a grasp of procedures outlined by the supervisors within the medical administrative department in the health care industry. While not a challenging post it relies heavily on the employee adhering to the pre-established guidelines and the job description. This may include guiding patients about health care costs, getting pre-certification required by insurers and providing secretarial support to the staff.
