Jas 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Jas 2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law
So by committing one sin, we are guilty of all of them. So we are all thieves, let me then repeat my question. What kind of thief are you?
Luke 23:39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
Luke 23:40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
Luke23:41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
Luke 23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
All of us deserved the punishment Jesus took on the cross, the pain, the torment the destruction he received for us. He took them however, because he loved us. The bible tells us that 'God commanded his love toward us, in while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.' (Romans 5:8) He died in our place to take the punishment for our sins, which we had committed. So which thief are you?
Are you a thief who mocks Jesus and spits in God's face? Are you a thief who while going on to a deserved destruction you laugh at the Christians around you who have turned away from sin and turned instead to God? Or are you a thief who admits that yes, you are a sinner and deserve to be punished for your sin? Remember the words of the second thief. Luke 23:40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
Luke23:41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. We are under the same condemnation as Jesus was, not just to die and be tormented for our sins, but to be separated from God eternally in a devil's hell. It didn't end there however, the thief did not just confess Jesus as being sinless and the Christ he also asked Jesus a very important question. Luke 23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
The thief asked Jesus to remember him in God's kingdom, he was asking for mercy for his sins. What did Jesus say to this, while he hung on the cross in torment and pain? Did Jesus ignore him, or did he rebuke him for his sins? Did Jesus blow him off because of the pain and separation he was feeling? No, as always Jesus put others above himself and answered the thief in a loving and giving way. Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
In the midst of taking the punishment he never deserved, Christ looks upon the thief who admits he did deserve his punishment with mercy, love and forgiveness. How can we not accept so great a gift, as God has given us through the blood of Jesus Christ. Don't be the first thief, the thief who wastes his opportunity to accept Jesus by laughing and mocking him, be the second thief, the one who took the opportunity for salvation God gave him and entered into paradise.
