What Kinds of Opportunities Are Attractive to Australian Venture Capital Funds?

Australia has some of the world's best IT talent, yet, when comes to investments, they are ranked as one of the "cheapest" IT companies in the world.

This is indeed, a shame for many Australian companies, which is a reason why many successful Australian IT companies have chosen to list overseas or secure investment capital from overseas investors.

That said, things are changing, our recent survey has revealed what the Australia based investors are looking for when comes to IT & Telecommunications sectors (known as ICT sector in Australia).

1. Social Media & Market Research '" Yes, these are attracting attention from VCs in Australia, with companies offering permission based market research or industry specific social media forums for instance.

2. IT companies that have global opportunities '" take Melbourne IT as an example, which was a 100% Australia focused company initially, since then, it has expanded its services worldwide. Another example is realestate.com.au, which is now world's largest real estate listing website.

3. Telecommunications software, including diagnosis software, billing software '" this is a sector that Australia is especially strong in, and has gained worldwide reputation.

4. Digital agency '" this is also a very talented industry, some of the Australian firms have expanded globally such as Photon Group, providing both digital marketing and other marketing strategies such as e-mail and database management

5. E-health and telemedicine technologies, Australia has a number of highly successful e-health companies. Australian Government is also supportive of e-health developments, and have been providing both funding and assistances to develop this industry.

These are just some quick examples how much talent we have in Australia (IT & Digital wise), our research has revealed many interesting opportunities and sectors that we have not considered in the past.
